Nope, that was published in 1908 so it is out of copyright and certainly a classic.

Please, do find something like that in the English literature and not so pessimistic and depressing or childish so that we all can have a real good time reading and discussing.
I know you weren't talking to me, but your comment has prompted me to nominate The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte

From Manybooks:

The story of a woman who leaves her abusive, dissolute husband, and who must then support herself and her young son. By challenging the prevailing morals of the time the novel caused a critic to pronounce it ''utterly unfit to be put into the hands of girls''. It is considered to be one of the first feminist novels.

Flatland: a romance of many dimensions by Edwin Abbott

It is an 1884 satirical novella by the English schoolmaster Edwin Abbott Abbott. Writing pseudonymously as "a square", Abbott used the fictional two-dimensional world of Flatland to offer pointed observations on the social hierarchy of Victorian culture. However, the novella's more enduring contribution is its examination of dimensions; in a foreword to one of the many publications of the novella, noted science writer Isaac Asimov described Flatland as "The best introduction one can find into the manner of perceiving dimensions." As such, the novella is still popular amongst mathematics, physics, and computer science students.

Several films have been made from the story, including a feature film in 2007 called Flatland. Other efforts have been short or experimental films, including one narrated by Dudley Moore and a short film with Martin Sheen titled Flatland: The Movie.

Not copyrighted in the United States. http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/97

We have it: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15729
A classic that's quoted by physicists everywhere and boring as watching grass grow. I'd like to see the movie to see how they represent a two-dimensional world on screen, but I have no desire whatsoever to re-read the book.

By my count it needs a third.

Wow! This is really nice. For real. This thing was supposed to go on until the 27th! we have just gained 3 days. Who is in is in , who is out is out! Tough.

Wonderful move. This cuts through red tape like a hot knife with butter. It slices through the Gordian knot even before it is tied up! Genial!

This demonstrates that absolute monarchy is the best form of government. According to some authors it should be temperated by regicide, but not in this case though. Bob, you have my never ending support and gratitude!

We go on EITHER until the time expires OR until we have ten books with three nominations.

I don't know what you mean by "oral tradition". If you look at the first post in the thread you'll find this clearly stated:

Quote:
The poll thread will open at the end of the nomination period, or once there have been 10 books with 3 nominations each. At that time a link to the poll thread will be posted here and this thread will be closed.

Let me be graphical. Just for the fun of it. (I think it is clear that I do not want to rise any objections whatsoever to the matter in question).

When is the Poll?
The poll thread will open at the end of the nomination period, or once there have been 10 books with 3 nominations each. At that time a link to the poll thread will be posted here and this thread will be closed.

Either or works like this:

Either you eat this soup or you jump from the window. Slightly independent events per se.

I understand: I open the the poll either at the end of the nomination (27 April) or once there have been etc.etc.

Oral comes from my previous post about regicide. It is, in my intention, a metaphor. Next step would have been a reference to auto de fé.
