Limited battery life?
My "old" KOBO Aura HD is coming to its end of life and now*I'm looking for a replacement.*I'd like to buy a 7" ebook reader again. The KOBO Libra 2 is a good alternative but only the color version is available but I do not want a color version. I've read that the B&W version is not manufactured anymore so you are being forced to the more expense color version...
The Tolino Vision 6 would be a good*alternative but in several reviews I read that users are complaining about the very limited battery life of that device. Are there*Tolino Vision 6 users who have similar experiences? I've also read that ebook readers running on Android have a shorter life time than the ones running native Linux and more and more ebook readers are using Android now. |

The Tolino Vision 6 is not recommended in terms of battery life. Within that size the Kindle Paperwhite has the longest battery life, superior to any other. But you have to like what Kindle has to offer (I particularly find it an excellent e-reader). The PocketBook Era is another alternative, with normal battery life. Android is a world apart. Devices vary a lot depending on their specifications and brands. Talking about Android in general terms can be confusing.

There are 2 reasons why my Aura HD is coming to the end of its life:
1) When I want to forward a page, every now and then it forwards 2 or sometimes even 3 pages. So, I need to check the page counter at the top every time I forward to the next page. This behaviour has gradually started about 1 year ago. 2) The USB socket to charge the book reader (and transfer books to it) is getting worn out. I tried many USB cables and only have one left to get the best results when charging/transfer ebooks to it. I even bought a new USB micro cable but the device USB port is simply worn out due to its age and usage during the many many years. I've used the Auro HD with much pleasures over the many many years but once I cannot charge it anymore, it's definitely the end of it. I like the quality and flexibility of the KOBO readers but as I do not want to have any color version, the Tolino Vision 6 is a good alternative but the (very) short battery life is a road block for me. Quite likely I'm going to purchase the PocketBook Era 7". Though the Kindle Paper White 6.8" seems to have an excellent battery life, I do not want to part of the Amazon Eco system, apart from the very limited ebook types it can handle. |

I bought a Tolino Vision 6 about two years ago (because it was in super sale). I really liked it! Battery life isn't great, but it warns you way ahead of time so you can put it on charge. If I recall correctly I could read a couple of books, around 400 pages each before getting the warning. I almost always read with the reader's light on.
I did miss the "automatic" sorting into series my Libra 2 has when transferring from Calibre, but to me that wouldn't be dealbreaker. I gave the Tolino to my daughter a year ago, and she's happy with it. She doesn't keep comparing it to the Libra 2. |
