It is a common need as of 2016 when he added "plain text" and "short text" as "virtual datatypes" to Calibre. However, he still thinks of them just as "comments", which is the "official" datatype. That is one of the consequences of not using 3d-normal form database design with Custom Columns. Further, his previously stated logic for not adding them to Bulk Metadata Edit (BME) conflicts with having INT, FLOAT and BOOL datatypes supported. His logic of not supporting "plain text" and "short text" is that they are "book dependent". Guess what; so are INT, FLOAT and BOOL. If he is being intellectually honest, he should not allow #pages or #read_already to be set simultaneously for a group of books in BME. However, he has the final say in the matter. Hence, my GUI Tool. DaltonST |

Version 1.0.1 - Python 3 compatibility.
Version 1.0.1 - 2019-04-26 Python 3 compatibility.
Minimum Calibre version is now 3.41.3. Obviously, upgrade Calibre first. DaltonST |

Sorry think it was just taking time to get the new version of Calibre going first.

Can you Please release HERE your last Calibre 3.48.0 compatible version of your plugin.
There are some poor People who have to stay on 3.48 on some Devices. I lost my last 3.48 instance with the old Pluginversion. And its not possible to download old versions from inbuilt PluginManager. THANKs |

Calibre Custom Column with Dropdown List
Quote:
LS cannot change the main Calibre Library View Qt design in the way you request. I would suggest you simply use Metadata Bulk Edit to change that custom column, but Calibre does not support doing so for any flavor of datatype Comments, regardless of the flavor's virtual sub-datatype. In the meantime, simply sort your books appropriately then mass-change the selected books en masse via the Job Spy plugin using one or both of the GUI Tools shown in the attached image. If you are feeling both highly optimistic and lucky, you might ask Kovid for a new custom column datatype (or new virtual datatype via the Display which is officially used for that purpose, such as for short-text like a Title/Name that is non-HTML versus long-text like Comments that is HTML) that provides what you ask. Why not use column type "text column shown in the tags browser" instead of long text for the library target column type?

I want to make sure I understand this plugin.
If I should have a column #calibrelibraries where each tag corrolates to the name of a calibre library, can I just use the plugin to send all the books to those libraries based on the tag? |
