Question about EE or PE?

Sometimes it is necessary to know if a question is about the full sized eDGe or the Pocket eDGe, since the are a few differences. Maybe it's an idea to have that information in the memberinfo and than shown under the avatar on the left side of the post.

The MobileReads forum doesn't seem to have a problem allowing a user to list multiple devices...

If understood the OP intention, listing the device in the memberinfo would relate to the questions being asked. Though I think having the devices listed a good idea, it will 'not' add to a person's posts. A separate forum specifically for the PE would however as Chulubor has already recommended as well.

The devices are so similar that this would result in either a huge number of duplicate posts (the same info in both forums), and/or users needing to look in the "other" forum to see if the answer to their question happens to be there...

If we're unsure which device a user is asking about (if it even matters), then it would be simpler merely to ask

Perhaps a specific subforum that outlines specifically which features are different and addresses those differences? That would keep all the current stuff the way it is, but allow for those areas of differences to be easily found and navigated.

You could keep this GD forum as is (for discussion relevant to both) and add a forum specifically for each device. It would certainly cut down on the clutter. The looking-through-three-forums problem could be solved by savvy use of the search button.

I think just adding a EE or PE at the start of the tread title is probably the best resolution for device specific issues.
