I'm not too sure what the difference is between option 1 & option 3 ....
I simply pay in order to read what I want to read (below a maximum for fiction). |

I did not vote here. I don't buy books for any of the reasons above.
I purchase non-fiction paper book now and then because it's something I want to keep. Usually for some sort of reference (craft, hobby, special interest). When it comes to eBooks I purchase them if I can't get hold of them legally through the library (Swedish eLibrary does not have waiting lists, all books are available at all times). That happens very rarely. When I'm on hold at one of the US libraries I'm a member of I read Swedish books or downloaded (legal) freebies. |

I am in the habit of paying for my stuff. This is a dirty habit and I know it has to end. So thank you to make me make up my mind. Right tomorrow morning I will go to that baker, shove my shotgun under his bloody nose and make him hand over my rolls *grrrr*
Sad side of this is. I could not vote, there is no option for my particular situation. |

Do you mean realbooks or ebooks?
Realbooks: They have resale value, and are usually cheaper than the ebook if it's a vanity publisher. Ebooks: It's quicker and easier than not paying for them (sometimes). |

Ebooks are real books!
Just because they're not made of paper doesn't mean they're not real. |

To contribute to the author. I would want the authors (of books that I enjoy, of course) to continue writing their works and I feel my small contribution may make further works possible.

I'm hoping to see more books by authors if I purchase them.

It's mostly as I suspected, people pay for books to send monies to the creator. At least that's what we tell ourselves. As some have mentioned it is because they want to read the book.
I have been wondering if this thoughtfulness for the creator will hold up in a copyright free world, but perhaps that is for another poll. |

I buy books because buying them allows me to read them at my leisure.

Given that your poll was created to that end, it's not in the least surprising that it supports that conclusion. Whether an honestly-constructed poll would return the same findings is another matter entirely.
