This is actually a Kindle4Android question. The latest version has a new permission, it can access account information. It's Amazon trying to get into my Gmail?

It may be trying to authenticate your country of residence - or detect those folk "improperly" purchasing books or apps or movies, etc. that is currently barred by geographic restrictions?
