I did try the font last night and found that it didn't work well. The spacing was off (IMHO). Too much space between the letters. |

v3.002 was a bit of a pain to get working on my device, so I've attached working versions that have been run through ReadyifyFont to this post to spare others the bother.

I had no trouble getting the fonts working. What trouble did you have? Do you have the patch to allow the advanced font control to work on side loaded fonts? If not, it could be why you had trouble.

Are any of the changes made in 3.002 actually relevant to how Literata will display on a Kobo?

EDIT – After you said this I decided to try again to copy over the fonts, and then rebooting to see if it would let me select them, but it still doesn't work. I think it has something to do with the font name not matching the file name. There's a nice new ligature for "Th" that you'll notice on all variants. The 12pt variant is very similar to the v2.201 release, but you'll certainly notice the difference with the other variants. I don't think that the 7pt and 72pt variants are worth considering for use. Here's two pics of my Kobo, one showing the new 36pt Literata and the other showing Literata Book. Both have the same font settings including line height slid all the way to the left. Last edited by ZodWallop; 08-07-2020 at 05:59 PM. |

I was searching for updates to Literata Book font and just read that "Literata initially included two different weights (regular and bold) and corresponding upright italicised variations. Version 2.1 named Literata Book added an additional two different weights (medium and semibold), small caps and made cap-height numerals the default." Meaning that Literata Book and Literata are the same font. What am I missing here?

Yes, indeed. That was the origin of my post. While searching for new versions of the Literata Book I found out that quotation. Is Literata Book a shortcut for Literata 2.1? No upgrades, no updates, etc? That quotation is either wrong or it does not make any sense.

But as you can see, Literata has much more padding around the characters than Literata Book. Also, Literata book is a bit heavier, resulting in darker characters on e-ink. |

Hello.
I am playing with Spectral, and renamed Medium and MediumItalic to Regular and Italic. I have been working in three different ways: (a) via KoboifyFonts and last version of FontForge; (b) via ReadifyFont and last version of FontForge; (c) directly with FontForge. (a) fails with syntax errors (to be expected). (b) does not work. The fonts are practically destroyed. The letter o and punctuation characters in bold and regular are drawn deffectively (like the internal ring in o becomes elongated and gets outside the external ring). (c) works well. But this is a manual procedure and I am looking for something more automated for these simple renames. Do you know what I can do? I am setting up fonttools to see if that works. Will report on it. Thank you. Last edited by gogu1904; 08-10-2020 at 07:34 AM. |

The thing is, if there are OTF fonts, save then as TTF fonts. Then load then into the fonts directory of your Kobo. As long as you have the advanced font control patch installed, just the the Advanced Font control to add weight. That is the best solution. You don't have to fool around to get the font the way you want. The advanced font control is all you need. The reason ChareInk comes in weighted and unweighted versions is because some people are using Readers that do not have font controls to up the weight. |

The problem is that I also use KOReader on my Kobo, and there I don't have the same font weight fine tuning.
