I don't think Apple is dying. It will take some time to see if they lose ground.
But I do applaud Samsung's innovativeness with their new products. I have a Galaxy Note and love it and the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 looks like an amazing product with the large screen and build in Wacom tablet. Hopefully they will continue this trend. |

The reason nobody is going after it is because there is no extra money in it. As you say, most of the players have left... because there is no business to be found there other than what the networks make of it. Also, remember I said MS is trying to get their *own* "cable" over IP operation going. (Rumored name is XBOX LIVE DIAMOND. Just a rumor mind you but there are hints in their SEC filings...) So if you combine that with the LTE wireless 4G data services, MS would have something new for the cable-less 6 million. My point is Apple isn't just "fashionably late" to the living room wars but outright late-late. Other players are there--not just Microsoft--carving out installed bases with serious products that aren't just a "sort of hobby". Whether via an Apple TV or an STB they will have to get some serious "wow" to get even a toehold in a market aready experiencing a lot of "wow". Edit: Check out the 2012 versions of high and mid range home theater receivers from Onkyo, Pioneer, and Sony... Or BluRay players from Vizio, Oppo, and others. It's not just "Smart TVs" and gaming consoles Apple would be contending with. Last edited by fjtorres; 08-20-2012 at 07:35 AM. |

I've really went off apple lately every time someone beats them in sales or just makes a better product they immediately run to a local court with some frivolous patent/accusation demanding sales bans.
I think they are losing their support slowly I used to know tons of people with iPhones now I only know one and he doesn't even take it with him anymore. |

I am not happy with our Samsung plasma tv as it developed serious image problems after only 2 1/2 years. As to their refrigerators I wonder why I should pay hundreds of Euros more as compared to excellent Bosch/Siemens fridges. |

Apple isn't dying. The tablet market isn't stable yet, so we can't draw conclusions.
If you want to see a different perspective, read this: Apple sold 5.7 million iPads in the U.S. last quarter, court docs show. Samsung sold 37,000 Tabs What is funny about the story is the fact that they were wrong. The numbers were for the tablets that were infringing, not the total number of tablets that Samsung sold in the US. The update did funny things to the perceptions of the people commenting on the story. First they were sure that Samsung was fluffing their worldwide sales numbers because they obviously only sold 37k tablets in the US, and they couldn't have sold more in the rest of the world since the US has the biggest market. After the update they are convinced that the 37k number is false because they don't want to pay too much to Apple for the infringing products. Bottom line: these are people who will always consider Apple to be king. |

It's rare for a company to dominate a product category for very long. Apple did it with the iPod, but I don't think they catch the lightning in a bottle like that again. Too many determined competitors.
IMO that's a good thing. Keen competition means better and cheaper products for all of us. |

One bit of information I read which I found interesting is that the judge criticises Samsung in front of the Jury but reportedly only criticises Apple when the Jury is out, my guess is more for the benefit of the media and seeming impartial than anything else. Regardless of the decision though Apple has poked a beehive and this whole patent war is probably only getting started. |
