A Rising Thunder - Honor Harringon - David Weber

I just noticed on Amazon that the next Honor Harrington book comes out on March 6th.

I was just telling myself that I have to get to reading Mission of Honor. I will probably start it today

Baen/Webscriptions has nothing yet but I am sure, just like with all the others, that the ebook will be available DRM free on release day for around $7.
Gotta love Baen!

Now I have to decide if I want to reread all of the others, in order, before March 6th.

I really enjoyed "On Basilisk Station", but I'm having a hard time getting started with "The Honor of the Queen". The first couple of chapters are so full of right wing rhetoric (military is good, intellectuals are naive, etc) that I'm starting to wonder if I missed something in the first book. Are all the books in this series like this, or is this one just an exception?

The books are a mixed political message. I have read the entire series and if I had to classify the politics, I would say Republican centrist as opposed to Democrat centrist. I wouldn't let the politics get in the way of a good story.

not to derail the thread but i came across what i can only describe as libertarian military science fiction in Vaughn Heppner's Doom Star series. Earth is in the grip of an ultra-socialistic Orwellian nightmare and invaded by master-race, genetic supermen known as the Highborn. the characters find themselves caught between the 2 factions. i just thought the 2 extreme examples of the political spectrum with the guys caught in the middle who just want to be free was an interesting take on the genre.

as to honor harrington, the series has been on my tbr list for years now. i just need to buckle down and read them.

They're all good reads. Some better, some worse. The politics are there, but it's easy to just gloss over that, even if you don't agree with them. In most cases, it's not in your face.

I've read the first 8 and whilst I have noticed the politics I've never really felt it distracted from the story. I've also found that as I've progressed through the series I've noticed the politics less and less.

No doubt. And I expect an eARC soon, as they come out about six months before official release (mostly).

Get on with it already, Baen!

The politics are less of a problem than the fact that Honor's enemies tend to be strawmen that are easily knocked down by her.

He is definitely toward the right, but usually an honest right. For the most part, he avoids the jingoistic stuff. He gets better until he starts the info dumps.
