Ja das stimmt wohl, muss ich Dir recht geben.
Dann will ich es mal etwas ausdehnen, nicht nur Thriller/Agenten sondern auch noch Krimi/Psychokrimi.
Was mir auch gefällt sind die Preston/Child Bücher mit Agent Pendergast.

Für mich muss das Buch Spannend sein und mich packen. Ich denke so geht es aber den meisten Lesern.

Ich les' gerade "Starfish" von Peter Watts, einen Science Fiction-Roman, der unterwasser spielt.

Der Autor stellt diesen Roman und die anderen zwei Teile der "Rifters"-Trilogie unter einer Creative Commons-Lizenz kostenlos zur Verfügung. Meine Version hab' ich von Feedbooks.

Hast Du denn mal James Rollins oder Mathew Reilly probiert? Ich les Preston & Child auch.

Naja, eigentlich les ich ja sowies so alles was Buchstaben hat.

Not Tolstoi aber Dostojewski. Hmmm tbh das war eine ausgabe die sich gelohnt hat. habe das Buch for 13 Jahre (in Russisch) gekauft und lese immer noch. Das ist doch mal "value for money" (Tschuldige, mir faellt gerade die deutsche Ausdrucksweise nicht ein).

Port Royal, Jamaika, 17. Jahrhundert. Captain Charles Hunter, Freibeuter in inoffiziellen Diensten des britischen Gouverneurs von Jamaika, heuert eine verwegene Crew von Spezialisten an, um den gewagtesten Raubzug anzutreten, den die Karibik je gesehen hat. Teil I - PORT ROYAL
Kapitel 1
Sir James Almont, dank der Gnade seiner Majestät Charles II. Gouverneur von Jamaika, war Frühaufsteher. Diese Gewohnheit entsprach einerseits der Neigung eines in die Jahre kommenden Witwers, andererseits war sie die Folge seines unruhigen, von schmerzhafter Gicht gestörten Schlafes und schließlich trug sie dem Klima in der Kolonie Jamaika Rechnung, wo es kurz nach Sonnenaufgang tropisch heiß wurde.
Am Morgen des 7. September 1665 stand er wie üblich in seinen Gemächern im dritten Stock der Gouverneursresidenz auf und trat sogleich ans Fenster, um das Wetter zu begutachten. Die Gouverneursresidenz war ein imposantes Backsteingebäude mit einem roten Ziegeldach. Es war außerdem das einzige dreigeschossige Gebäude in Port Royal, und er hatte eine vorzügliche
Aussicht auf die Stadt. Unten in den Straßen konnte er die Laternenanzünder auf ihrer Runde sehen, wie sie die Straßenlaternen der vergangenen Nacht löschten. Auf der Ridge Street war die Morgenpatrouille der Garnisonssoldaten unterwegs und sammelte die im Dreck liegenden Betrunkenen und Toten auf. Direkt unter seinem Fenster rumpelte der erste der flachen Fuhrkarren
vorbei, die vom einige Meilen entfernten Rio Cobra Fässer mit Trinkwasser brachten. Ansonsten war Port Royal still und friedlich, wie immer in der kurzen angenehmen Zeitspanne, wenn die letzten Zecher vom Vorabend im Vollrausch zusammengesunken waren und in den Docks noch nicht das allmorgendliche hektische Treiben eingesetzt hatte.
Er wandte den Blick von den engen, verwinkelten Straßen der Stadt zum Hafen hin und sah den schwankenden Wald von Masten, die zahllosen Schiffe aller Größen und Formen, die dort vertäut oder im Trockendock lagen. Draußen auf dem Meer, hinter der kleinen Insel nicht weit von Rackhams Riff, bemerkte er einen zweimastigen englischen Handelsschoner, der dort vor Anker lag. Das Schiff musste irgendwann in der Nacht angekommen sein, und der Kapitän hatte wohl klugerweise beschlossen, erst bei Tagesanbruch in den Hafen von Port Royal einzulaufen. Und tatsächlich, gerade als er hinschaute, wurden die halb eingeholten Toppsegel im Dämmerlicht
entrollt, während am Ufer bei Fort Charles zwei Beiboote ablegten, um das Handelsschiff ins Schlepptau zu nehmen.
Gouverneur Almont, von den Einheimischen »James der Zehnte« genannt, weil er von allen Freibeuterraubzügen ein Zehntel des Gewinns für seinen eigenen Geldbeutel abzweigte, drehte sich vom Fenster weg und humpelte auf seinem schmerzenden linken Bein durch den Raum, um seine Morgentoilette zu verrichten. Das Handelsschiff war augenblicklich vergessen, denn an diesem Morgen erwartete Sir James die unangenehme Pflicht, einer Hinrichtung beizuwohnen.
In der Woche zuvor hatten Soldaten einen französischen Halunken namens LeClerc gefasst, der wegen eines Überfalls auf die Siedlung Ocho Rios an der Nordküste der Insel gesucht worden war.
