I've written what I was able to find so far, in the way of quotes from both Overdrive reps and Amazon.
"More on Kindle Lending Library - How it would work. Reactions & Analyses. April 21, 2011" That's at http://bit.ly/kwklibr2 Most important is that Libraries will order titles and then Overdrive determines format needed and target device for delivery. For certain: Kindle owners will be able to get the e-books over wireless, with no computer required. - Andrys |

Also, distinctions do not always harm. It's just a label to distinguish one group from another. I am a Sony user. You are a Kindle user. You could be both. But, when we need to differentiate we give a label. |

Here is my latest guess on Overdrive eBooks.
I am guessing that once Overdrive implements Kindle eBooks, that is when they are going to also implement pick your own format. So all of these PDF, Mobipocket, & ePub eBooks that libraries have will be merged into a single listing and so if a library has say 1 PDF, 1 Mobipocket & 2 ePub, they will then have 4 copies in any available format. This will be better for all involved as we can then pick what format we want if it is available. And Kindle users will be able to pick Kindle format if it's available. So that would give us a possible choice of ePub, PDF, Mobipocket, and AZW. If this is true, then it's may help a lot with wait times. as instead (using the previous example) of dealing with just the 2 ePub copies, we'd get to use all 4 and 4 copies gives a lesser wait time then just 2. |

And I'm saying that that's wrong. I'm objecting to people flat out stating that "This is the way it's going to work" and making claims (and accusations) based off of that statement.

A library has four licenses (from overdrive) for an ebook (no format specified on the licenses). They lend it to four people at a time on a first come, first served basis... regardless of what format they need. No evil; "the epubs are all lent out but a kindle user jumped ahead of me in line because there was a mobi available!! " Did you really think they were going to allow that kind of ugly scenario to develop? It'll work fine, you'll see. And if it doesn't... why get all worked up before you need to? |

The downside of this is that there won't be mobipocket and PDF copies available for those of use who aren't picky as to format. I've been able to circumvent waiting lists by choosing the format that no one wants. Oh wells, All good things and all that... |

You people lol! The best would be if libraries were the recipients of the largest piece of the tax revenue pie and they stored copies of every book in existence digitally and served any of them to everyone who requested a copy.

According to Overdrive, eBooks will automatically have more copies bought if enough people get on the waiting list. That's pretty good too.
