Merging in Calibre - Need help

Do I misunderstand what Merge is in Calibre? I figured it means you can combine two or more books into one, yet I can't seem to get this to happen. I just end up with the first book in the list.Is there something obvious I'm overlooking? I could really use some help!

This is what I've done:
  • I've looked at the help manual.
  • I've followed and tested the various options also under Edit Metadata\Merge|\....
  • I made sure I used files of the same format (ie, .epub).

Still, I cannot get books to combine into one.

Help, please. I'm on the latest version of Calibre 1.27. I thought I recalled a recent update that made this possible or even simpler; however, looking through the recent updates, I could not find it.

Help is VERY much appreciated.

Please consider this thread now CLOSED with the following info:

Umm..so, of course, after posting this I did one more search and easily found what I needed. Also, a forum search didn't show any applicable threads until I start to post this reply....

I'll leave it for anyone else who gets in the same boat I ended up in...
The easy answer is the epubmerge plugin...
There is also an epubsplit plugin....

Just follow the preferences/plugin menus and search for this..self explanatory after than.

Merge ('M' shortcut) within Calibre is about combining Metadata (line items in the spread sheet) along with its formats

Epub Merge (the PI) is about combining Books (makes a bigger book)
