Did you have to whitelist Calibre with your firewall or antivirus? If so, perhaps the update removed it from the whitelist (because the executable changed) and you have to redo it.

Good idea but not the problem. Check firewall and it has it correct as 'allowed'.

@JimReid - Best way to ensure its not AV or FW is to close/disable them and do a test - a search for the error shows several security packages have caused problems with mail from time to time - e.g. MacAfee, Symantec, Avast. . .

Interesting. I turned off everything and tried again. Same error. I think I'll try rebooting in 'safe' mode and see if it works there. Thanks for the idea though.

It means something on your computer, most likely an antiovirus program or firewall is preventing calibre from sending email.

@Jim Reid - please don't post the same issue more than once - I've merged your posts from the other thread. See ==>> MR Guidelines

If Safe mode doesn't cast any light, and you're using 3rd party AV/FW I suggest uninstalling them - you may need to download a 'special' uninstaller from supplier to do that. Disabling doesn't always remove everything (services) nor does Safe Mode.

I did as instructed and still it failed. I created a GMX email of JamesReid45@GMX.com and tried it with the following failure.

I also made sure that it was acceptable to Kindle and that all was spelled correctly. Still not sure what it wrong. This all worked before with Comcast email address before about update 55 or so. Anyway, any more ideas?

Thanks,

Jim

You put in the wrong username/password, see the line:

reply: '535 Authentication credentials invalid\r\n'

Your GMX username is the full email address.

Hi!
I had the same issue. Since I suspected the problem had something to do with a kind of incompatibility with GMX, I logged in my account there in my browser. There were new terms of use to be accepted, so I did it. After it, I tried to send the ebook I was attempting to before, and surprisingly the task was complete. No errors.
But now I have another issue: even there was seemingly no error in the task manager of calibre, the ebook does not reach my Kindle at all. Also, I got an email from Amazon at GMX saying there was an error while sending the ebook. The file format is compatible (epub). I wonder if this only happens to me.
Greetings,
Gerard.

Actually, I think this particular issue might be related to the specific ebook I'm trying to send, since with all the others calibre works fine.

can anyone tell me how to convince the AVG firewall to allow calibre to send/share files?
