Death in the West Wind is the seventh in Deryn Lake's John Rawlings historical mystery series. Some of the others in this series have been on sale before, but I, at least, haven't seen this one on sale before. It's on US Kindle Countdown at $0.99 for about six more days.

Spoiler:
Quote:
April, 1759.

The apothecary John Rawlings and his new bride are honeymooning in Devon, but the discovery of a badly beaten corpse on a ghost ship cuts their holiday short.

The death of Juliana van Guylder and the subsequent disappearance of her brother, Richard, draw John into an investigation in which the suspects include the mysterious Society of Angels, a lone highwayman, and a phantom coach complete with headless coachman.

Needing answers and knowing he is neglecting his bride in search of the truth, John summons Joe Jago and the Flying Runners from London for help in his investigation.

But his determination to discover the truth puts him in danger…a danger from which he may not be able to escape.

Will Rawlings be able to find the truth or will his pursuit end in tragedy?

Death in the West Wind’ is a gripping historical murder mystery that chills to the bone.

Terry's wife, Cynthia, is living separate from her husband and daughter after her own personal demons threatened to ruin her relationship with them permanently. Their daughter, Grace, is rebelling against her parents' seemingly needless overprotection. Terry is just trying to keep his family together. And the entire town is reeling from the senseless murder of two elderly locals. But when Grace foolishly follows her delinquent boyfriend into a strange house, the Archers must do more than stay together. They must stay alive. Because now they have all been unwillingly drawn into the shadowy depths of their seemingly idyllic hometown. For there, they will be reconnected with the man who saved their lives seven years ago, but who still remains a ruthless, unrepentant criminal. They will encounter killers for hire working all sides. And they will learn that there are some things people value much more than money, and will do anything to get it.
Caught in a labyrinth between family loyalty and ultimate betrayal, Terry must find a way to extricate his family from a lethal situation he still doesn't fully comprehend. All he knows is that to live, he may have to do the unthinkable . . .'

I'm a big fan of Linwood Barclay and recommend this book. It is a follow-up to No Time for Goodbye, and though you don't need to have read the earlier book, it's better if you do.
I got a US link that shows available...unfortunately it's $9.99

Spoiler:
Sometimes decorating can be deadly serious

Haley Farrell is taking a chance on herself. After earning her interior design certificate, she quits her retail job and opens a decorating business. What's worse, the victim is Haley's best friend and mentor, Marge Norwalk.

Reeling from Marge's death, Haley soon realizes that the only way to prove her innocence is to find the real murderer. Before long, Haley is collecting clues and suspects like other designers collect paint chips and fabric samples. But will contractor Dutch Merrill and detective Lila Tsu be swayed by her investigative talents? Or will she be the one punished for this perfectly designed crime?

Oh, no! Not again!!!

Another book that will "keep you on the edge of your seat."

I seriously can't imagine a more uncomfortable position in which to read a book.

But, hidy-hoe and wha'da'ya'know: Maybe it's only unique to me and my posterior.

Several books in the Joe Gunther series by Archer Mayor are on sale one way or another. All are repeat on-sale, but if you are missing (and want) some in this police procedural series, these might fill in a hole or two. I read several in this series back in DTB days, and now have been rereading them slowly, and enjoying them again.

The Dark Root (#6) is at $2.99 on US Kindle Countdown for about 1 1/2 more day. Info in this previous post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=3209771

Well, now I've noticed that there are three additional e-book only titles in this series: City of Lies, City of the Sea, and City of Desire. These are published by Endeavour Press, which seems to do old backlist titles and newer continuation titles. Details for these "semi-self-pubbed" books are in this post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=3242134

I've read the first three in the series back in DTB days, and enjoyed them, and am a good chunk of the way through City of Lies, which is on US Kindle Countdown right now, at $0.99 for about 4 more days. I'm enjoying it so far (I REALLY like historical mysteries, so YMMV), and wanted to list it while it's still on sale.

Quote:
Egypt, the 18th Dynasty.

After the death of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun, Egypt must make the difficult decision of choosing a new ruler promptly.

Ay, a powerful and influential politician has taken to the throne and must protect his country from the resentful Horemheb, leader of the army, who craves power and will do anything to overthrow Ay.

Huy, the scribe who unwillingly quit his profession to become a private detective, has been appointed once again by Ay.

Having achieved his ultimate goal, he is now undecided on his next step - should he marry the charming physician, Senseneb?

As their relationship progresses, Huy is faced with the tough responsibility of protecting Ay when Horemheb and his followers suddenly attack the premises.

On the other side of Egypt, Tutankhamun’s widow, Ankhsi lives in solitude to grieve her husband’s death. Horemheb ultimately decides to use her as a hostage and Huy must decide who he will protect first – Ankhsi, whose husband he served for years, or Ay, who he works for now?

Will Huy act quickly when Horemheb arrives in order to save Ay and the future of his country whilst also protecting Ankhsi?

City of Lies’ is the riveting new thriller from the pen of master story-teller Anton Gill that follows the adventures of Huy in ancient Egypt.
