For those who has been procrastinating I definitely recommend doing that. Once your books are downloaded you can always take your time in doing anything further with them.

I don't have any issues importing KFX from any of my Kindles, including Colorsoft (and of course these have color images).

This could change with some future firmware update.

If worse comes to worse I have a Kindle Touch.

Amazon already broke KindleforMAC to be able to remove DRM. You have to use the latest version and you cannot remove the DRM from the downloaded eBooks.

In my case, I have an old Kindle Touch that does not do KFX. So I get KF8. So I'm good for now.

But if Amazon really is closing D&T, why isn't everyone seeing the warning message? I don't see it at Amazon US & UK. Just be be doubly sure, I just tested D&T again at both Amazon sites and no message at all.

Could it be that Amazon has backed off and removed the message?

I just bought the 2024 Paperwhite when it went on sale recently but kept my 2015 Paperwhite and I don’t see that message. This is disappointing if this is permanent.

I wonder how slow their rollout of this will be. I just went in and did a download and transfer and had no such message. I'm in the US. I have 2 older devices still registered to my account...a K3 and a K4BNT (K5?)...along with an Oasis 3. Luckily I've been downloading all my Amazon books for years so I don't have to spend the next 2 weeks doing it.

Yeah, I'm mostly there. Almost. Kind of. Downloaded, de-drm, in Calibre. I also have most of the original files saved (non-drmed/pre-Calibre) in a separate folder.

I do need to be better about my backups in general though. That is a failing of mine. I need to give in and just pay for backblaze or something. I suck at follow through when it comes to connecting external drives and backing up or syncing.
