Calibre Highlights/Annotations
Does anyone know how and where Calibre Highlights/Annotations are stored?

In the calibre database, inside eub files (optionally) and in the calibre config directory, keyed by file path. And if you want to see how they are stored, export them from the viewer.

I've managed to decode the JSON from the epub and I'm wondering if there's any documentation I can read if I want to generate my own highlights.

There's no documentation, its pretty straightforward, but if you have questions feel free to ask. The trickiest bit is the location which is encoded using the EPUB CFI standard, which has a spec.

I noticed that when exporting highlighted content, special time identifiers appear within the exported text. I am curious to know if this is an intentional feature.
For reference, I consulted ChatGPT regarding this matter, and it explained that this seems to be a format used to denote date and time using lowercase digits and Chinese characters. Here’s how it interprets the exported format: The export: "〢〨/〥/〢〇〢〤 下午〡〢:〡〤" translates to: "2024年5月28日 下午12:14" 〢〨: 20 〥: 5 〢〇〢〤: 2024 下午〡〢: 12 〡〤: 14 Therefore, the entire expression corresponds to "May 28, 2024, at 12:14 PM." Below is an example of the original exported content: -------------------- Realizing that they had long possessed enough knowledge to pursue their cherished goals. 〢〨/〥/〢〇〢〤 下午〡〢:〢〡(calibre://view-book/_hex_-426f6f6b/11/EPUB?open_at=epubcfi%28/92/2/4%5BA-45%5D/2/56/1%3A0%29) Test -------------------- How can this issue be resolved? I dont follow. What's the issue? Exports contain timestamps. Your timestamp is appearing in Chinese because your UI or book language is set to chinese.
