It's been a while since you made this claim. But, you never answer me when I ask: What version of the RMSDK is Kobo using? what version could they be using? And now, you have me curious, what version of the RMSDK do they need to so that smallcaps are supported.

You are obviously an expert on this, so you should be able to tell me.

And the only ereaders there are monochrome Palm PDAs with 160x160 pixel screens. The ebooks are all PDF format, but the Adobe Acrobat for PalmOS* is pre-installed.

(*That's a real product and I have a copy but never installed it on my Palm Z22)

RMSDK 11 (I do not know what version 11 or if it's just 11) supports smallcaps. But RMSDK 9 and 10 do not. I do not know if RMSDK 9 or 10 is being used by Kobo.

So, you think they should "upgrade" the devices to Android? I can't, quickly, see any sign that there is a Linux build of RMSDK 11. If there isn't, then it won't be possible for Kobo to update without a "few" other changes.

Of course, you obviously know something different or you would not have been suggesting this so often.

I'm not suggesting Kobo move to Android. Pocketbook runs Linux and they've updated to RMSDK 11.

Where do you get the information that Pocketbook is using RMSDK 11 from? I've done a search for it and cannot find any statement. I figured someone in the Pocketbook forum here would have mentioned it. But, a search shows that nearly all posts with "RMSDK" in them in the last two years were made by you with the claim that they are using the latest version. Of course, you don't actually state what that version is or where you got the information about it.

I have not found any mention of an RMSDK version later than 10 for Linux that you did not make. Please post your source for the existence of this thing.

From the release notes for some version 6 firmware for one of the Pocketbook devices. It does mention RMSDK 11.

That it does. But, there is no other reference anywhere. That is very weird. You would think that it would be mentioned as available.

I would yes. But it seems Adobe isn't really pushing RMSDK all that much. But I figure if Pocketbook can have RMSDK 11, I don't see why Kobo cannot.

Adobe do not seem to be pushing the RMSDK as much. But, they do have pages for RMSDK 9, 10 and 11. Linux is mentioned on the pages for 9 and 10. It is not mentioned at all on the page for 11. That is what makes me question what is happening with Pocketbook. It would be interesting to see tests of the new features in RMSDK 11 on one of those devices.

As to whether Kobo can get RMSDK 11, it depends on a lot of things. One is the contracts/relationship between Adobe and Kobo. Another is dependencies in the libraries might make it difficult. And of course, whether it is actually worth it for whatever features have been added and whatever new bugs have been added.

Email Adobe & say you are kickstarting a new eInk reader. You'd certainly have a convincing spec. Ask them how to get RMSDK 11. Point out that those APPLYING the DRM to the ebooks are paying so you should have it free, c.f. Full Adobe Acrobat PDF creation vs totally free PDF reader. Also the PC desktop Windows & Android ADE are both free.

You might even want to really Kickstart or similar your own eInk reader concept. You modded a font?

As far as programming a Reader goes, it's a lot more difficult then modding a font. But I would like to find out how RMSDK works on a Pocketbook. I'll have to find a test ePub and ask someone who has a Pocketbook to try it.
