Question Kindle Freezing

Kindle shows only black background with white threads up and down the screen. Power is on. Reset has been done. Same threads even when power is off. Nothing budges. What to do?

you didn't mention if you had removed the battery or not. That would be my next move. If that doesn't work, then call Customer Service.

Take the back panel off. At the bottom left area , there is a pin sized hole. Using a dulled pin, push in gently, watching the screen. When it flashes blank, remove the pin. A pen will not work, but a paper clip will. Styluses are right out.

were you loading a brand new, unopened ebook at the time? the sony reader 505 has to 'format' the ebooks at first and can sometimes freeze or crash the device into a reset. wondering if the kindle does that too.

The Kindle has a built in text search database that it adds the content of each title to when you add it to your Kindle. This process can chew up your battery but doesn't interfere with reading the title. Most people only notice the indexer when they buy a new book and then immediately try to search it and discover they can't find anything in it. Then they try a couple hours later and voila it mysteriously works.

By the way, you only have to wait for your Sony to format books if you don't transfer them with the Sony tool. Sony's tool pre-formats the titles for you using your PC's horsepower
