Purchased Baen ebook no longer available on Baenebooks.com
I bought a copy of A Cruel Wind by Glen Cook as an ebook from Baenebooks.com back in the summer of 2013. I can still access and download my copy of A Fortress in Shadow, but not A Cruel Wind. It's very strange, but when I try to download it the site says it isn't available. I have emailed Baen tech support, but what else can I do? And any idea why this has happened? Is it anything to do with Night Shade Books' shaky financial performance over the last couple of years?

This is very common; there are all sorts of books that Baen have once sold that they no longer do: hence my constant litany that you CANNOT rely on a bookstore to keep your books for you - it's your responsibility to download them and keep them safe.
There's lots of books I've bought from Baen over the years that I can no longer download. It's particularly common with books that were sold by Baen, but published by other publishers. The Baen site specifically states: Quote:

The same thing happened to me at the now defunct Fictionwise. About a dozen ebooks I had purchased there were unavailable when I tried to download them a month or so later. Their terms of service specifically stated I had 7 days to download, so that was my bad.
Fortunately, when B&N absorbed Fictionwise, I got those titles back in my B&N library. I downloaded those promptly. |
