Polish Cover didn't quite work

Hello,

I normally use the Polish feature in calibre to update the cover image in the ebook. This has worked rather well in the past.

Today when I used "Polish" "update the cover in book file" the cover image doesn't appear correctly in Adobe Digital Editions 4.5.8.

Here is the code from the Calibre "Edit Book" for the cover image prior to using "Polish."

I've attached a screenshot of what this cover looks like in Adobe Digital Editions. The cover looked fine in "Edit Book" and in the Calibre "Viewer" so I'm not sure what went wrong with Digital Editions.

I'd appreciate any and all help in solving this mystery.

As a start, I'd suggest changing the preserveAspectRatio="none" to preserveAspectRatio="xMidYMid meet"

Hi,

I changed the preserveAspectRatio="none" to preserveAspectRatio="xMidYMid meet" and well the cover looks like a cover but it's a tiny icon cover, in sea of white blank space. I've attached a screenshot.

preserveAspectRatio="none" is the default for "Polish Book" update cover.

I am out of ideas.
If that was the code from the book that LANDED on the device (remember Calibre will adjust when sending if you don't have 'Tablet' profile set)

AFAIK, Polish Books is not customizable. The ModifyEpub plugin does use the preserveAspectRatio="xMidYMid meet" setting which is why I prefer it. Most of the items that Polish Books does that Modify ePub doesn't such as font subsetting/embedding, removing unused CSS rules, etc. are not needed by me since I run the epubs through an editor (either Sigil or calibre's editor or both depending on what I'm doing).

Hi,

Thanks for all your help. I think I may try the ModifyEpub plugin for covers. Normally, I just use the Polish Book to insert the metadata cover into the ebook at the end after I've finished fixing the ebook formatting.

Polish books isn't directly customizable. It uses the default conversion options. And from memory, so does the Modify ePub plugin (unless it has options for it).

I found out where I needed to update the settings for Modify ePub. However, it's still a bit of a mystery as to why the cover art is a tiny icon instead of full page....

kovidgoyal solved the problem I was having in another MobileRead post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...36&postcount=8

It appears the novel I was viewing in Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) was a epub 3 file. I converted the novel to epub 2 and the cover art is back to it's normal size.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help solve this mystery.
