Home Page - Book Covers?

So this could have been discussed before. Given azw, pdf, cbz and others can all have a book cover or thumbnail how come the home page looks like this?

And not this (obviously mocked up)?

Kindle App for PC does this. Why not the Kindle?

I think processing images on the kindle might lessen its battery life?

Im kinda enjoying how you can "library" your books into categories anyway why change it back into images? Also, it makes me sad when I see books with no covers, i.e the free books downloaded from amazon.
