Help Demo Kindle DX?

Hi I wonder if someone can help me.

I bought a Kindle DX graphite at a fleamarket in NYC and when I got home found out it had a virus when I connected it to my computer. I deleted the files and put the updated 2.5.8 bin file and restarted. During the update it stopped and said the update failed with an error code of 006.

The device has pages that change but the buttons do not work and is totally unusable. I first thought it was a demo model because of the constantly changing screens. Now I'm not sure.
Amazon refuses to help me because I can't provide a serial number.

I don't care how its done but can anyone on this forum get this device to work

Thanks

Contact Amazon and see what they have to say.

Is it a functioning "demo model"?
Expressed differently: After charging the battery, can you turn it on?

Yes it functions, turns on, downloads but doesn't retain content.
