I just saw this unbelievable(?) book synopsis on Libby that deserves some more attention than was actually given to by the persons who are responsible to it.
btw, is there anywhere to report issues I find in Libby? I find the search there to be unreliable in some cases, when searching by author and the results that are returned are missing titles that are actually available on Libby. Last edited by pdurrant; 03-19-2023 at 05:10 AM. |

No, I don't think there is. I remember finding a copy of Anne Frank's diary miscategorized as "fiction" and not finding any way to report the error.

Libby was bought out by LbraryThing to save it from closure. If you have a LT account, you should be able to flag the description.

This was the embedded cover on a purchased (well, free) book.
The funniest part is opening up the ePub and the real cover image was in there, just not set correctly (and missing from the manifest). |

RIP Lance Reddick
I know, this is the reading V&R thread and this is, thusly, not really appropriate, but damn, I'm going to miss Lance Reddick. I don't really care about 98-99% of most actors, celebs and that whole ilk, but I will miss his work.
He was 7 years younger than I (eek!) and I've loved him in pretty much everything I've ever seen him in. The Wire (which is where most of us met him, I suspect), Fringe of course, Bosch...man, the list is endless. Well, obviously, that's hyperbole, not endless. All good things and bad things, for that matter, come to an end, but dammit! Sorry, dude. I wish you could have stayed with us longer. Hitch |

My pet peeve at the moment: recommendations that keep getting recommended to me even when I've said I've read the book or that I'm not interested. I am sick and tired of seeing the same titles over and over...

Sometimes I got the impression that some must be paying to have their books pushed up the list, since they seemed to live there for months and there was no indication anywhere else that these were actually popular enough to justify such a push. |

However search on Kobo seems far better than search on Amazon. "Recommendations" and "Buy again" are so poor from everyone that I wonder about the programming skills. |

This happens all the time with Amazon: I'm looking for a book with public domain translations, which I don't want. I think it's well worth spending money on a modern translation of 19th century and earlier books; overall the translation reads more smoothly and there are helpful annotations.
But even if I pull up the paper copy of the edition I want (just now it was a Penguin), clicking on the related Kindle link takes me to one of those public domain translations that someone is charging $1.99 for. Why can't Amazon get this right? In fact, I bet they have the Penguin Kindle book, but I can't be bothered to put more effort into finding it. |

They don't care. They don't have to. They're amazon. (With apologies to Lily Tomlin's Ernestine.)

I have a PDF strategy guide published by a German game developer. They forgot to translate a few paragraphs from German. The PDF file security doesn't let me copy the text so I can put it into a translator.
