PDF Page Size

What is the official page size for the PRS900/950?

The old PRS505 guide says

SONY® READER DISPLAY SIZE
Page size in
portrait mode:
3.47” width x 4.54” height
(88.2 mm x 115.4 mm)
Page size in
landscape mode:
4.41” width x 6.09” height
(112.0 mm x 154.8 mm)
Pixel count in
portrait mode:
584 width x 754 height
Pixel count in
landscape mode:
784 width x 1012 height
Pixel size: rectangular, 151 x 153
microns

what about the 900?

Based on the specs in the 950 manual, we can see the following;

Quote:
7.1” (180.98 mm) diagonal electrophoretic display
600 × 1,024 pixel, 0.151 × 0.153 pixel/mm
Note that the pixels are not prefectly square.

From those specs and the assumption that the bottom information bar is 35px high, we can mathematically determine the following approximations:

Screen Width: 600 x 0.151mm = 90.6mm = 3.56693"

Screen Height: 1024 x 0.153mm = 156.672mm = 6.16819"

Screen Diagonal: 180.98mm = 7.125" diag

Bottom Bar in Portrait mode: = 35px = 5.355mm = 0.211"

Bottom Bar in Landscape mode: = 35px = 5.285mm = 0.208"

Dimensions of screen

Screen in Portrait mode: = 90.6mm x 156.672mm = 3.56693" x 6.16819"

Screen in Landscape mode: = 156.672mm x 90.6mm = 6.16819" x 3.56693"

Dimensions of documents minus the Bottom Bar

Document in Portrait mode: = 90.6mm x 151.317mm = 3.56693" x 5.95736"

Document in Landscape mode: = 156.672mm x 85.315mm = 6.16819" x 3.35886"

Well I tested out the math by creating two Word docs which I then exported to PDFs. They are as follows (both PDFs are attached):

Portrait View PDF: 3.56" x 5.95"

Landscape View PDF: 6.16" x 3.35"

The Portrait View PDF works just as it should and seems to be a near perfect fit in portrait mode.

Due to Sony's warped interpretation of landcape mode the Landscape View PDF, nor any other sized PDF I tried, fit the entire screen. Sony really needs to rethink their stupid interpretation of landscape mode.

BTW: The text used for the PDFs was simply copied and pasted from an internet news article so it is basically just filler words, and I in no way endorse anything contained therein. It just seemed like a quick way to grab a page full of content for my test.

...
Attached Files
File Type: pdf Portrait View PDF.pdf (29.9 KB, 296 views)
File Type: pdf Landscape View PDF.pdf (29.6 KB, 279 views)

Hi Elsie, and welcome to the forum!

You can use the page sizes I listed above:

Portrait View PDF: 3.56" wide x 5.95" tall

Landscape View PDF: 6.16" wide x 3.35" tall

As far as how to do it in Adobe Acrobat Pro I cannot help you as I don't have that application. I usually create my files in MS Word then export them to PDF. But I gather you are probably trying to figure out how to resize an existing document, assuming it is not write protected. I suggest going to the Help file and searching on "page" or "size" or both. I know Adobe products tend to have crappy documentation, at least my Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 2.7 do. Good luck!

thank you ,jack, for your prompt answer: you're absolutely right. crappy in a nice word to describe the situation. you're right also in assuming that i'm trying to figure out how to resize an existing pdf document, not write protected. so far i'have not been able to understand a word of what they say. if you come with a simple, plain english explanation i'll be very grateful. thanks again, jack. elsie
