Buchclub Extra: Evolution von Stephen Baxter
Wir bereiten uns auf unsere erste Leserunde im neuen Jahr vor, ausgewählt wurde von uns: Stephen Baxter – Evolution (Original erschienen 2002 unter gleichem Titel) Quote:
phantastik-couch.de Ob nun Original oder eine Übersetzung gelesen wird, ist jedem selbst überlassen. Buch oder ebook sind jedenfalls im Original als auch in der Übersetzung von Heyne „überall“ erhältlich. Start der Leserunde ist der 15.1., dh. zu diesem Zeitpunkt wird mit dem Lesen begonnen. Da es ein etwas umfangreicheres Werk ist, haben wir dafür grob 6 Wochen eingeplant. Kommentare sind jederzeit erwünscht, Spoiler sollten aber wie immer dementsprechend gekennzeichnet werden. Oh, gut! Da versuche ich mal wieder mitzumachen. Ich brauche sowieso etwas, das mich aus meinen augenblicklichen Lesetrott befreit, und da kommt Baxters Evolution ganz recht.
Aber ein recht heftiger Brocken ist das schon... |

Super, dann sind wir ja mindestens zu dritt.
Hoffentlich ist Baxter dazu angetan, dein "Tief" zu überwinden, er ist ja bisweilen schon etwas schwer verdauliche Kost. |

So recht mag mich die Einführung nicht in ihren Bann ziehen - zu spröde erscheint mir das Treffen der drei Generationen von Frauen. Mal sehen, ob Purgas Geschichte mich mehr begeistern kann. |

Ich habe erst ca. 20 Seiten gelesen, aber mir hat die Einführung schon mal gut gefallen. "Dinosaur Dreams" liest sich wie eine Folge von Walking With Dinosaurs, was ich nicht negativ finde. Bis jetzt habe ich zumindest den Eindruck, dass dieses Buch präzise in mein "Beuteschema" passt. Wie sich über 600 Seiten davon machen, wird sich herausstellen.

Ich habe gestern noch "Dinosaur Dreams" und "The Hunters of Pangea" geschafft.
Hmm. Also ich gebe ja mal zu, ohne den Buchclub hätte ich das Buch sicherlich nicht, oder zumindest nicht so bald, gelesen. So sehr ich ja sonst Bücher mag, die mich zum Nachdenken bringen, was dieses hier ohne Zweifel tut, finde ich den Grundton ein wenig deprimierend. Das liegt natürlich irgendwo in der Natur der Sache - Evolution ist, wenn man sie auf Einzelschicksale herunterbricht, brutal. Stets für die, die es aus welchen Gründen auch immer nicht geschafft haben, und oft genug auch für diejenigen, die sich mit einem gewissen Stolz als die direkten Vorfahren eines derzeit lebenden Organismus bezeichnen können. Baxters Spekulationen über diverse Dinosaurier, die möglicherweise Werkzeuge herstellten, eine primitive Sprache entwickelten und in sozialen Gruppen lebten, finde ich zwar gewagt aber nicht unrealistisch. Mit dem Luftwal hat er sich meiner Meinung nach aber etwas zu weit aus dem Fenster gelehnt. Zumindest hätte er mal erklären sollen, wie er sich denkt, dass eine ausreichend große Anzahl wechselwarmer Tiere es schaffen soll, sich durch die doch recht... unterkühlte Tropopause bis in die Stratosphäre vorzuarbeiten und dann dort zu bleiben. Ich bin nun aber jedenfalls gespannt, was da noch so alles aus Baxters wissenschaftlich fundierter Fantasie entspringt. :-) |

Ich habe immer wieder mal im Bereich Evolution verschiedene Sachen gelesen oder Dokumentationen geschaut, so dass mir einiges vertraut ist. Ich hoffe aber auf der anderen Seite, dass es jetzt nicht nur im gleichen Stil weitergeht, da würde ich dann ein Sachbuch mit ein paar Bildern und Grafiken zum Thema vorziehen. |

Ich denke, mir gefällt das Buch, aber ich glaube nicht, dass ich 100 Seiten davon am Stück lesen könnte. Dazu beschmeißt Baxter einen zu sehr mit Infos, obwohl mir vieles davon bekannt ist, da ich mich seit über 20 Jahren als Steckenpferd mit dem Thema befasst habe. |

Gut, dann bin ich wenigstens nicht ständig hinten dran. Ich glaube, es war eine gute Idee, sechs Wochen für diese Leserunde anzusetzen, notfalls können wir das sogar noch verlängern.

Davon würde ich auch ausgehen. Zumindest so lange, bis der Mensch auf den Plan tritt, und dann wieder, nachdem er die Bühne verlassen hat. Und selbst mit menschlichen Protagonisten würde ich davon ausgehen, dass Baxter den Stil beibehält.

Ich bin jetzt mit dem Untergang der Saurier fertig, finde es bisher sehr gut, mich stört nur diese Unentschiedenheit ob es nun ein "Roman" oder ein "Sachbuch" sein soll. Ich persönlich würde eher einen etwas unpersönlicheren Stil bevorzugen oder Kapitelweise zwischen Erfahrungsbericht von Betroffenen und Allwissendem Hintergrunderzähler wechselnd.
Ich halte die beiden bisherigen Spekulationen mit halbintelligenten Sauriern und dem Luftwal für gar nicht sooo weit hergeholt, wenn die Nachfolger der Menschheit in 65 Mio. Jahren und nach diversen Naturkatastrophen auf die Menschheit zurückblicken wird es auch schwierig Beweise für unsere Intelligenz (oder des Mangels daran) zu finden |
