I have a Kobo Glo N613 that crashed, then i reset with a paper clip, it restored and then when i went to update again it garbled the screen and never started again. Now it goes Blue/Green/Blue/Flashing green forever more. Between the first green and second blue the screen blanks and goes white.
Extracted the internal SD card, cloned it and wrote it back to an 8GB SD that i know is good. same thing when inserted. Please share original factory image file. I am a VERY technically capable IT professional. |

FIXED unbootable SD without image file
I fixed the booting of the Kobo Glo without a repair image. Note, recovery DID NOT Work at all.
So i took the sd out, cloned it and put the new SD in and it didnt boot any different than the stock 4GB. Note: The following requires knowledge of linux, a linux pc and an SD card reader and is NOT for a non-technical person.... I mounted the SD card in linux, There are 3 partitions on the SD. recoveryfs rootfs <-- Only update this partition KOBOeReader Found the upgrade .tgz file, extracted it (tar -xvzf filename.tgz) and copied the folder structure (standard linux folders) over the boot partition. Put the sd in the tablet and it booted! Screen was a tad corrupted (parts were not aligned, like they wrapped around the other side. Hooked to computer, copy update files to the .kobo folder, unplug - auto-updated and it works, screen is good and all. The reason the overlay wasnt perfect was there were other "uboot" bin files, i assume some other upgrade/pre-boot firmware update, but that fixed after the re-install of the upgrade. Quote:

Kobo Glo working image, latest update
***This is for the KOBO Glo N613 ONLY***
Use this image at your own risk. Make a BACKUP image of your SD card FIRST. IMAGE FILE: https://we.tl/t-DDQMFKrO6n You have 1 week to download the file. Image made using winimage - you must go download/install yourself. unzip the image using 7zip and you have an 8GB file called '8GB_KOBO_Fixed.vhd' Ensure the ONLY removable drive in the computer is the SD card from the kobo Glo - it must be the internal 4GB sd (or a replacement LARGER SD card - i.e. 8, 16, 32) you remove after detaching the back of the KOBO.... [FYI the stock internal SD cards fail, so i would recommend REPLACING the sd card with an 8GB or larger SD] Open winimage Go to the DISK menu Choose "Restore Virtual Hard disk on Physical drive" Choose the SD card you want to write to Choose the expanded .vhd image file Write to the SD Note: The image is "8GB" in size but works for 4 and 8 GB sd cards because the user data partition has NOT been expanded so anything past the 4GB mark is just empty space. If you are writing to a larger SD card, use MiniTool Partition manager to expand the last partition (Fat32) to the end of the drive to utilize all the space of the SD card after writing. if you get a write error between 1-50% of writing on the stock 4GB sd card, it has failed and you need to get a new SD card. Updated info
if you get a write error before 49% of writing on the stock 4GB sd card, it has failed and you need to get a new SD card. If you get an error at 49% you can ignore that and insert the SD back into the kobo and it should boot. That is because it is an 8GB image it will stop writing after 4GB. Remember there IS NO DATA AFTER 4GB in the image file! so it is safe to write to a 4GB or larger SD!

Gobo Glo N613 SD Card image file download
Gobo Glo N613 microSD Card image - Software Version: 4.34.20097
• This is a clean image for Gobo Glo with the latest update applied (15/Sep/2022). Here you can check all SW versions. • The link redirects to my Google Drive, so it will be available for as long as I keep sharing it. I will try to keep it indefinitely, but I suggest you also keep a copy. • I have tested this image on the original 2GB SD card, 16GB and 32GB cards. They all worked flawlessly. For larger than 2GB SD cards you will need to add the "unallocated" storage space to the "KOBOeReader" FAT32 partition. See elsewhere on how to do use unallocated space and expand a partition to the end of the drive. • The image file is compressed using 7zip. To write the image to your SD card you can use the free and standalone "Flash Drive Image Writer" • Right after the successful completion of the image transfer you will get the following message from Windows: "You need to format the disk in drive before you can use it" Just ignore this and press "Cancel". • If you go to Start > diskmgmt.msc you will get the same disk space allocation as the 2GB and 16GB images bellow. 2GB SD Card 16GB SD Card • Insert the microSD card into the internal slot and you're good to Glo!!! • Good Luck! |
