R Is For Ricochet is the R-th in the Kinsey Millhone series by Sue Grafton. It has dropped to $1. 99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OZ0NYY
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/r-is-for-ricochet-2

Spoiler:
Quote:
In this #1 New York Times bestseller in Sue Grafton's Alphabet series, private investigator Kinsey Millhone has her hands full when a job that should be easy money takes a turn for the worse.

Reba Lafferty was a daughter of privilege, the only child of an adoring father. Nord Lafferty was already in his fifties when Reba was born, and he could deny her nothing. Over the years, he quietly settled her many scrapes with the law, but wasn't there for her when she was convicted of embezzlement and sent to the California Institution for Women. Now, at thirty-two, she's about to be paroled, having served twenty-two months of a four-year sentence. Her father wants to be sure Reba stays straight, stays home and away from the drugs, the booze, and the gamblers...
It seems a straightforward assignment for Kinsey: babysit Reba until she settles in, make sure she follows all the niceties of her parole. Maybe a week’s work. Nothing untoward—the woman seems remorseful and friendly. And the money is good.

But life is never that simple, and Reba is out of prison less than twenty-four hours when one of her old crowd comes circling round...

The Hammond Innes Collection Volume Four contains The Golden Soak, Maddon's Rock, and The Doomed Oasis. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FNBR98K
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the...on-volume-four

Spoiler:
Quote:
Three hard-hitting thrillers from the author of The Wreck of the Mary Deare and “Great Britain’s leading adventure novelist” (Financial Times).

British novelist Hammond Innes was perhaps best known for his nautical mystery, The Wreck of the Mary Deare, which was made into a film starring Gary Cooper and Charlton Heston. But the prolific writer, World War II veteran, and dedicated yachtsman wrote over thirty novels of adventure and suspense during his long career. The collected fiction gathered here follows three very different quests and spans the locales of Western Australia, the North Sea, and the Arabian Desert. As always, “for sheer excitement Hammond Innes will be hard to beat” (Daphne du Maurier).

Golden Soak: In this “tenacious adventure,” Alec Falls, a ruined and unscrupulous tin miner, travels to the forbidding desert of Western Australia in search of the legendary abandoned gold mine known as Golden Soak (Kirkus Reviews). But the mine is empty, the land is dry, and the people of the desert feed on men like Falls. To make the fortune he craves, he must pull water from the sand—and gold from thin air.

“As good as any story can be.” —The Times (London)

Maddon’s Rock: Stranded in a Russian port for weeks during World War II, Corporal James Vardy finally boards the Trikkala, hoping to return to England. But quickly he senses the vessel is doomed. Her officers are drunk, her lifeboats are leaky, and the mysterious crates supposedly carrying machine parts actually contain a fortune in silver bullion. On the North Sea, he realizes the ship is peeling away from its convoy, a suicidal decision that takes the Trikkala—and Vardy—directly into troubled waters. Also published in the United States as Gale Warnings.

“Exciting . . . [a] new high in action adventure—in a story of modern piracy, treasure raising, of false charges of mutiny, and a fighting finish.” —Kirkus Reviews

The Doomed Oasis: Col. Charles Stanley Whitaker is a legendary figure who made his fortune in the oil fields of the Arabian Desert, becoming more Bedouin than British. Three years ago, his illegitimate nineteen-year-old son, David Thomas, embarked on a quest to find him. Now, David has seemingly vanished into the desert. Unraveling the mystery of his disappearance will culminate in the oasis town of Saraifa, where water is as valuable as oil, and life can be cheap.

“The writing shines as vivid and sharp as the desert sun.” —Gavin Lyall

The first book in the Keith Calder series

Keith Calder is an itinerant gunsmith and shooting instructor. He is also a rascal with a total disregard for the law, a skilled and dedicated poacher of birds of both varieties.

Calder is a guest at a shoot in the Scottish Borders when one of the syndicate members dies—apparently by accident, but a bullet is found in his body.

Calder has a personal interest in the case, which deepens when the brother of his current girlfriend is arrested and charged with the murder. Calder begins to makes his own enquiries but he and Molly find themselves in danger . . .

Thanks Sue for adding links to my listing. I found an older mouse (uses dongle) to use, so I'm back in action again!

These two books are by popular British cozy writer, H Y Hanna. 1st book in both series is .99, so far Amazon only.

A Scone To Die For (Oxford Tea Mysteries)

This is book 1 of a popular British cozy series. I have not yet read this book. Thinking about getting the Whispersync audiobook.

Deadhead and Buried [/B] - (English Cottage Mysteries). I can only tell you that it features cats.

The Stone Circle is the 11th and most recent (2019) in the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths, at least until the next one comes out in Feb 2020. It has dropped to £1.99 at Kindle UK.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B079M1FQ8D

Spoiler:
Quote:
'My favourite series' Val McDermid

DCI Nelson has been receiving threatening letters telling him to 'go to the stone circle and rescue the innocent who is buried there'. He is shaken, not only because children are very much on his mind, with Michelle's baby due to be born, but because although the letters are anonymous, they are somehow familiar. They read like the letters that first drew him into the case of The Crossing Places, and to Ruth. But the author of those letters is dead. Or are they?

Meanwhile Ruth is working on a dig in the Saltmarsh - another henge, known by the archaeologists as the stone circle - trying not to think about the baby. Then bones are found on the site, and identified as those of Margaret Lacey, a twelve-year-old girl who disappeared thirty years ago.

As the Margaret Lacey case progresses, more and more aspects of it begin to hark back to that first case of The Crossing Places, and to Scarlett Henderson, the girl Nelson couldn't save. The past is reaching out for Ruth and Nelson, and its grip is deadly.

The Daily Deal at Kindle US today is a bunch of first-in-series titles, all (or at least the ones I looked at) from Macmillan, at $2.99.

Sadly for me, all of the ones I'd be interested in, I already have, probably from prior first-in-series sales .

But, just for fun, here are some titles I spotted, mostly ones I like (including especially, Still Life, Wicked Autumn, The Tourist, and The Janissary Tree), but also including a couple of other authors I recognize, even if I may or may not personally be a fan:
  • Still Life, Louise Penny/Inspector Gamache
  • Back of Beyond: C.J. Box/Cody Hoyt
  • Knots and Crosses: Ian Rankin/Inspector Rebus
  • The Tourist: Olen Steinhauer/Milo Weaver
  • The Quiche of Death: M. C. Beaton/Agatha Raisin
  • A Death of No Importance: Mariah Fredericks/Jane Prescott
  • Wicked Autumn: G. M. Malliet/Max Tudor
  • A Killing in the Hills: Julia Keller/Bell Elkins
  • The Janissary Tree: Jason Goodwin/Investigator Yashim

And now ten later titles in this series have gone on Kindle Countdown for $0.99/£0.99 each in the US and UK respectively.

Titles in this series do go free from time to time. So just like when several titles in Hammond's John Cunningham series went on Countdown a little while ago, you have to decide if you're patient enough to wait for free .

Kindle US: http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/?sea...&keyword=keith
Kindle UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/search/?s...&keyword=keith

And Dead Game seems to still be free as well...at least for the moment...

Blow Fly is the twelfth in the Kay Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US, not at Kobo US, at least as of now.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OIZSFA

Spoiler:
Quote:
A cold case turns red-hot when a death-row inmate renews his acquaintance with Dr. Kay Scarpetta in this “utterly chilling” (Entertainment Weekly) #1 New York Times bestseller.

Settling into her new life as a private forensic consultant, Kay Scarpetta agrees to investigate a cold case in Louisiana—the baffling eight-year-old murder of a woman with a history of blackouts and violent outbursts. Then she receives news that chills her to the core: Jean-Baptiste Chandonne—the vicious and unrepentant Wolfman who pursued her to her very doorstep—has asked to see her. From his cell on death row, he demands an audience with the legendary Dr. Scarpetta. With her friends and family by her side, Scarpetta tries to guess what sort of endgame this madman has in mind—how, if at all, it’s related to the Louisiana case—and then confronts the shock of her life: a blow that will force her to question the loyalty and trust of all she holds dear...

The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler is $1.99 at Amazon US.

One of the great detective novels. It's densely plotted (perhaps too densely plotted; I had to read the book three times before I was sure I understood what was going on) and Raymond Chadler's narration is fantastic. He's one of my favorite writers.

Quote:
The iconic first novel from crime fiction master Raymond Chandler, featuring Philip Marlowe, the "quintessential urban private eye" (Los Angeles Times).

A dying millionaire hires private eye Philip Marlowe to handle the blackmailer of one of his two troublesome daughters, and Marlowe finds himself involved with more than extortion. Kidnapping, pornography, seduction, and murder are just a few of the complications he gets caught up in.

^ And a lot cheaper, too. Only $0.99 at Kobo.

The editions, however, look to be very different. (The Kobo edition is copyright by Alien Ebooks. The cover is pretty cheesy.)

I'd go with the Amazon U.S.A. edition.

If you happen to live in CANADA, the best bargain for Raymond Chandler appears to be the one listed below:

https://www.amazon.ca/Collected-Raym...gateway&sr=8-1

Please keep in mind laws regarding copyright.

That Kobo link looks like a bootleg edition to me. Kobo also has the same edition as Amazon US and for the same price of $1.99, as you'd expect for a Big Five book:
