Kindle frozen already!
From a puzzled new member. I got my new Kindle, charged it fully, used it for about 7 hours off over 4 days on and off and then it froze on a page of text. The troubleshooter says put on charge again but I thought these devices were supposed to be good for a month at a time?

You need to restart your Kindle. Hold the off/on slider to the right for about 20 seconds then let go. You Kindle will restart. Then you should check into installing the latest firmware update.

I tried at the outset to re-start but it wouldn't. I had to re-charge for 30 minutes first. As it is brand-new, should it need a firmware update already?

Several people have had freezing issues that seem to have cleared up with the update.

I just checked the Kindle 3 Troubleshooting section and here are the instructions for clearing a frozen screen.

Quote:
1. Unplug Kindle from power adapter or computer.
2. Slide and release the power button. The LED light that surrounds the power button will display green for two seconds.
3. Shut down Kindle by sliding and holding the power button for five seconds. The LED light will blink three times. Wait for the screen to go blank, then release the power button.
4. Turn on the Kindle by sliding and releasing the power button.
5. If Kindle is still not working, you can perform a hard reset by sliding and holding the power button for 15 seconds.
6. If Kindle is still unresponsive, try charging Kindle before trying to restart the device once again.
