Detective Comics (1937-2011) #27 is free at:

BN.com, and
ComiXology

After snagging the book at ComiXology, I searched Amazon.com using the keyword phrase "detective comics", selected the Kindle format, and sorted the results by "Price: low to high". The results: 10 freebies, some comics (including the above-mentioned title), some ebooks. (FYI, Amazon.com indicates related searches are: batman, detective comics 27, justice league.)

Searching the same keyword phrase at ComiXology yields several additional free titles, including the "Extra" I've posted below. Finding the freebies requires scrolling over each cover.

As that bookstore's home page announces, it's "Batman Day" at BN.
•Searching the keyphrase "DC Comics" in the NOOK Books format yields 6 free titles
•Searching the keyword "batman" in the NOOK Books format yields 9 free titles. (NOTE: There were 10 earlier this morning, so if interested, you might want to grab these comics while they're available.)

Of course:

Searching the same keywords and phrases at such sites at Amazon and ComiXology yields many of the same comics found at BN, and more
All three sites (Amazon, BN, and ComiXology) offer lots more other comics, outside of the Batman universe

Hey everyone. I've been lurking this forum for a couple weeks and figured I might as well register and chime in here.

I maintain digital comic deal threads at six other websites, and would be happy to cut and paste my finds here as well. Here are a few of the finds from the last two days, which are busier than normal thanks to the San Diego Comic Con of course.

What do you guys think of Humble Bundle as a comic book store? Do they offer good deals or are rather little more than glorified samplers? The Walking Dead bundle looks interesting to me, although I remember reading the first issue of The Walking Dead back in the day and being disappointed. That probably was unfair, as I had just finished reading The Sandman, still my favorite comic by far, and anything would have looked bland in comparison right then.

And Comixology uses DRM, right? Trying to find a good comic book store, but I am fairly new to all this.

Comixology is all DRMd, but has the best reading experience and selection by far. At a minimum, you can use them for their frequent freebies.

The first 3 issues of Walking Dead are free at Humble Bundle so you can give it a better look if you want.

Actually, while browsing Comixology, I noticed they are offering now a DRM-free backup service. I guess they are learning.

And you can browser their DRM-free selection too. That's cool.

I re-signed up with Comixology, chose 3 free ones, and find I cannot download them (there was no obvious "click here to download" button on the first free one I looked at), so I must read them on line. This I don't have time for and I don't have or want Wi-Fi to download to a tablet (though I don't know if I would own them and be able to back them up locally even then).

Once Comixology offers actual downloadable comics (cbz/cbr/pdf), I may spend some $ with them. For now, I'm glad I found out with free ones that they still don't cater to readers like me. I'll just keep buying them occasionally and scanning them.
