Instructions for patching firmware 4.11.11911

This patch thread is for firmware 4.11.11911 (a6b8ad2d5175f2e07ba63120475b362a6b1407fb).

Instructions for patching on Windows, Linux, or macOS with kobopatch:
  1. Download the firmware from here.
  2. Download and unzip kobopatch_4.11.11911.zip from here.
  3. Copy the original firmware you just downloaded into the kobopatch src folder.
  4. Install the firmware on your kobo BEFORE proceeding with the next steps.
  5. Enable patches in the files in the src folder (or use the overrides in kobopatch.yaml to keep your options separate).
  6. Run kobopatch.bat on Windows, or kobopatch.sh on Linux.
  7. If the patching succeeded, a file named KoboRoot.tgz will be created in the out folder. Copy it to the .kobo folder of your device.
  8. Safely remove your device.

Download

See the kobopatch - An improved patching system thread for more details.

Changes to the kobopatch zip:
v49 (2019-06-09): New "ePub uniform font scale" patch (GeoffR).
v22 (2018-11-04): Updated kobopatch to v0.10.2 (allows an additional file to be placed in multiple locations)
v21 (2018-11-03): Updated kobopatch to v0.10.1 (nicer log format, integrated testing)
v19 (2018-10-25): Added custom font sizes and adjustable margins patches from GeoffR
v18 (2018-10-24): Added line spacing patches from GeoffR
v17 (2018-10-23): Initial release for 4.11.11911 with kobopatch v0.9.2

Missing patches:
- Brightness fine control (since 4.10.11655)
- Remove PDF map widget shown during panning (since 4.10.11655)

Patches for other files:
None yet.

Notes about this firmware version:
- The FullScreenReading config file setting is not needed anymore, as Kobo now supports this officially!
- Although this firmware is meant for the Forma, I have tested this on my Aura Edition 2 v1 (just delete the drivers folder from KoboRoot.tgz, and don't install the upgrade folder).

Mac users you can also run kobopatch.sh you'll need to use terminal to cd in to the folder containing kobopatch.sh for the lazy just open terminal type cd (space) then drag/drop that folder into terminal hit enter, then drag and drop kobopatch.sh into terminal and hit enter.

I provide this only because I know not everyone here who wants to patch their Kobo is the most technical, and this process shouldn't be something that hinders them.

I've just started preparing patches for the Forma, and I don't see it in the Custom font sizes in libnickel. What happens if I enable it? For the moment I haven't.

Thanks for the work.

EDIT: sorry, I've just realized I downloaded the 4.10 something patch zip

Custom font sizes and adjustable margins patches are coming in a few hours; GeoffR just sent them to me (I don't update those ones myself, as I don't fully understand them, so they are time consuming to update).

Another note with the patches-

To get text as close to the bottom of the screen

1) Enable the footer in reading preferences
2) Enable the patch to hide the footer
3) Fiddle around with font size/line spacing (this will be different for most fonts and of course is also dependent upon user comfort levels with the various sizes).

I'm having problems with the 'KePub stylesheet additions' patch. When I activate it (to make full justification the default) kobopatch errors out with the error that it can't find the key:

Patching ./usr/local/Kobo/libnickel.so.1.0.0
Fatal: Could not read and parse patch file src/libnickel.so.1.0.0.yaml: could not parse patch file: error parsing patch file: yaml: line 662: did not find expected key

Line 662 in libnickel.so.1.0.0.yaml is the line just before the patch to enable full justification.

Any idea what might be wrong?

It sounds like you may have ended up with the wrong indent when you un-commented line 663.

It should be 2 spaces followed by "- ReplaceString: ..." (without the quotes)

i.e. it should match the indent on line 658.

Thanks for the quick update.

Is it just me, or are the top margin patches for epubs not working? (Kobo Forma)
I'm trying to go to a close to 0 topmargin, but it seems to be stuck at the default margin.
May be a conflict with the new show/hide title setting.

I'm not sure (I don't use that patch). GeoffR sent the update to it to me this morning, but he did mention that it was untested. If I have time, I'll see if I can fix it.

Many thanks to geek1011 and GeoffR for their quick work in getting these patches updated and make my new Forma the perfect reader. So very appreciated!

Thanks also to MGlitch for the quick tip on getting the text as near the bottom as possible - it makes the screen space that much more pleasant for me to read on.
