unsync'ing secondhand reader to delete books via Library
I got a s/h PRS-300 from eBay for my mother. It's just arrived and seems OK. However, when I was on the 'phone talking her thro' how to delete unwanted books by using the Reader Library software (Macbook OSX 10.5.8), she reported an alert saying items were sync'ed and would need to be deleted from Library. When she looked at the sync tab, nothing was checked so I guess the prev owner had the reader synced to his PC.
I've had a trawl of threads here but they appear to discuss using Calibre etc as a workaround and I'd rather not take her the palaver of learning another app just for this task. Will a hard reset remove the sync? Are there other ways of achieving this? Thanks in advance! |

AFAIK a hard reset is the only way to solve your problem since you don't have access to the original owners library to un-sync that way.

Since the sync function sucks anyway, you might have her turn off the sync function and just manually add/delete books via the Sony Reader Library. I'm not sure if that will allow you to delete books synced from another computer though.

That's the issue, Jack; when a previous owner has switched on sync (I, like you and others, avoid it), anything added with it can't be deleted via Reader Library, only (laboriously) within the unit itself. I'll do a hard reset when I next see her.

A hard reset might just do the trick.
Did the previous owner de-authorize the device from their Sony Store account? If not, that will also need to be done so she can purchase and load books via the Sony Reader Library. If she is able to purchase and load books via the Sony Reader Library then it must have been de-authorize. If she cannot, then contact the previous owner and ask them to call Sony Support and get them to de-authorize the device. Without the device the previou owner will have to ask sony to do he de-authorization. Good luck and I hope she enjoys her reader! |
