How about, has Google claimed it? If yes, then it MUST be public domain.

Excuse the noob question, but how does this work?

Is it simply that we vote until the end of the month - so this month is GWTW - then read it and post on the discussion thread? I looked in the Wiki but didn't find anything.

Hi Ben. The nominations open at the end of the (previous) month, based on a topic and then voting takes place for a week or so and then the reading and a discussion thread is started later in the month.

Thanks for that.

How is a topic chosen? What was the topic last month? It looked a very varied selection.

Ben, I'm not sure about the topic choosing but PilotBob is the ringleader round here, you could probably search back through the threads and see what we've done. I've only been involved the last few months and it doesn't looks like I'm going to have time to do Gone With the Wind this month....just too much going on at both work and home...

Aren't you the lucky one. I have started reading it and I wish I could get a job real quick to use the same excuse.

If you got to the reading reco section and filter to only see "book club" threads you will find a fairly recent "Administration" thread where we dicussed and decided on the genres for each month. Also, you will find the "Official welcome" thread which pretty much explains it, but is a bit old (I should get around to updating it someday.)

Thanks for that. It would have helped me if the current book-club schedule and a paragraph on the process was posted as a separate thread and made sticky - perhaps that would help others and encourage participation? It could be called something simple like "How the Book Club works". Simply reposting your final schedule and existing summary of the process from the nth page of the admin thread would suffice.

I hope that doesn't sound spiky - I think the Book Club a great idea and that you're doing a good job of administering it.
