Upgrading KOReader
Hello all
I have two questions: (1) How do you upgrade KOReader on the Aura One? Is it merely deleting the KOReader directory in Adds and then downloading the latest nightly build and extracting it to the Adds folder? (2) When Kobo's Nickel is updated, it causes problems with KOReader menu. What would be the best way to update the Nickel firmware and keeping KoReader menu working? Thanks |

1. For a normal update of KOReader, using windows, you just open two windows explorer windows. One with the /adds folder, on your device, displayed and one with the download open in your compression program (like WinRAR) showing the "koreader" folder. Then you can just drag the "koreader" folder over to the adds window and drop it there. (You will be asked if you want to merge the files, which you do, then you will be asked how to handle the files. You may have to skip the history and screenshot folders.)
2. Tshering has addressed what is needed in his installation instructions in the first post of the "Kobo Start Menu 8" thread. Pay attention to the note that mentions your device. Luck; Ken |

Many thanks for the feedback.
(1) Regarding updating KOReader, would it be OK just to delete the folder in adds and just extract the latest build to the adds folder again? Does this affect the functionality of KOReader in any way? (2) I followed the instructions for the installation of KOReader menu for the Aura One and it works. To be specific - when Nickel re-boots for update should I select 'handle update' and then full installation when the device boots into KOReader menu? |

You seem to be calling KSM8 "KOReader menu". The "Partial" update option in KSM is to allow a Kobo firmware update, without effecting KSM. You might check the last few pages of the KSM8 thread for posts on updating the A1 and the new Kobo firmware. Also the use of the patches to KSM8 to make it work.

(2) No, you should select "install partial update," see how to install kobo update packages, which by the way the first post of the Kobo Start Menu 08 thread links to. |

Just overwriting existing installation shouldn't cause any problem. |

Thanks everyone for the feedback - I think I'll just delete and extract a new version of KOReader. I don't change the settings and highlights and annotations are stored in the e-book directory, so it shouldn't be affected with a delete and new extraction.
