Best ebook reader for personal content?
Coming from ebookwise 1150 to an apple ipad I would like a reader software where I can upload or convert word .rtf files and read them. I would also like to have a built in dictionary, touch the word, up pops the definition, just like the 1150. Any chance of an easy to use software?

The Apple "iBooks" app has an excellent dictionary - as you say, just tap the word to see the definition. It only works with ePub format books, but using Calibre, it's very easy to convert RTF to ePub.

As HarryT noted-iBooks is a great choice once you convert the RTFs to ePub. Stanza also allows you read your own content, and has an online dictionary (actually, it seems to access several different online dictionaries/thesauri)

And as someone that has converted several rtf's to ePub, they usually turn out pretty good using Calibre.....

But I would not wish Stanza on anyone even if that person is dead.

Font Size - iPad
Hello, I have mastered conversion from drm, then to epub using Calibre and can transfer book to iPad - feel like I have mastered a lot!!! My problem is that the font is too small for reading in iPad and the iPad will not let me adjust a Calibre converted book.
Any ideas or solutions? Thanks, Kris |

Best reader software for iPad

In my opinion, the best way to deal with your conversion problem is to use Calibre to convert the books to ePub, then plug in the iPad and send the books from Calibre to the iPad, which is working nicely by calling iTunes functions in the new versions of Calibre. iBook is very nice, a double tap on any work brings up an excellent dictionary listing, and the screen display is single or double-paged depending on orientation of the iPad, with useful page and book length information at the bottom to orient me in the book. Previously I was committed to Stanza on the iPhone and my Sony reader, and I was waiting for stanza to develop iPad support. Stanza does have iPad support now, but when I installed it on my iPad I found I liked iBook much better because of the flexible interface. Vanessa |
