Converting an .azw file to another format
Hello. I just joined this community and love it because I'm thinking about buying an ereader.
I'm not thrilled about buying only from Amazon's store and then them owning its possession. BUT, only they have a number of books I'd like to read. So can I buy from them, but post their ebooks to another's ereader.
Thanks for any ideas.

Hi Dutch15 and welcome to MR. I am with Cassidy - I have a Sony and have yet to find a book I couldn't buy elsewhere. My problem is the geo restriction - and even Amazon doesn't help there.

There a quite a few bookstores out there these days.

You can, but you'll need to remove the DRM (if any) and convert the format. Unfortunately, you won't find any explicit help with the first of those on Mobileread because of possible legal problems. For the second, converting Mobipocket format ebooks (which is what most Kindle ebooks are) is easy with Calibre. For Topaz format ebooks (which is what most Amazon-only ebooks are) it is possible, but requires more manual tidy-up.
