Finally pulled the trigger on a Kobo Aura HD
Well I finally pulled the trigger and bought a Kobo Aura HD. Next will be the case to protect it..... Man are the cases expensive compared to the price of the reader.
I have a lot of reading to do to learn how to use its features properly and I want to thank all of you for your advice and thoughts that you give in the various threads. My first task is to learn how to setup Overdrive so I can borrow from my local library. When I set up my ipad for both Kindle and Kobo it was easy, but it doesn't appear so with the Kobo .... But reading from my Kobo is much easier on my eyes so I still think there is a market for ereaders. However if some develops an e-ink or paperwhite app for tabs, ereaders could be the next VCR. Until then I know I will enjoy my new reader. |

Borrowing material from a library to use with Kobo is very VERY simple. See if this guide from the Toronto Public Library helps --> http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/c...uchhandout.pdf

Rps--Enjoy your new Aura HD--I've had mine for a couple of weeks now and really like it.
I bought an aftermarket sleep cover for my Aura HD--much less cost wise than the official cover--and it works very well. Here's a link to the case I bought: http://www.amazon.com/Premium-Leathe...o+aura+hd+case |

That's the case I use. Mine is purple. Love it! Seems to be good quality.

I have one in black. I had a look at the official case and I couldn't believe how much it cost for a cheap looking case.

+1 from me as well; I bought a red version of this case. Works like a charm.

I opted for the leather folio. It's high quality and the reader fits snug with no wiggling around. I went with this because when I read I do not want any extra weight/bulk of something attached to the device.

I can highly recommend the Mulbess cases; I have the Wine color. I also have the one that dordale mentions above, in the teal color. But I do prefer the Mulbess case as it's much sturdier and feels more "solid" when I hold it.

Congratulations. I purchased the Kobo Aura HD recently myself. I love it. I use it for reading at home. I also have a Kobo Touch that I use for travel. The HD's high resolution makes the text cleaner and easier on the eyes. The contrast seems to be inconsistent though. I am not sure if that is normal for eInk screens or just my eyes playing tricks on me. The HD also responds better to my touch commands. My Kobo Touch seems to go into lockdown mode and won't respond to a touch command for a minute or so. I just have to sit and wait it out.
Anyways, enjoy. It's a slick little unit. As for the other thing you are asking about...I have no idea. I'm completely overwhelmed what others are doing with their kobos (hacks/tweaks/mods). I don't even know where to start. |

How many pages do you have your refresh set for? At anything more than 1 you might get some degradation, increasing with each page turn. Most people that have it set to >1 don't seem to mind, but it probably varies a little bit with type of book your reading and your device (and maybe even air temps). I ahve mine set for every page because the black flash doesn't bother me and I like a clean background. Maps or other dark sections will tend to ghost more so you'll get more degradation after those.

As robko suggest, setting the screen refresh may be the key. I have mine set to a refresh for every page.
Perhaps the new Kobo Aura H20, with the Carta screen (that will be released tomorrow? Or is it a couple of weeks from now?) will be exactly the same as the Kindle paperwhite2, which has an excellent screen. (The new Kobo will have better resolution than the Carta screen on the Paperwhite2, as we all know.) To avoid any flames [re: misinterpretations due to a hasty reading of this post], my Kobo Aura HD is my reader of choice, and has been since I bought it in April. |

Same goes for me. But I've only had a chance to play with it and the touch. If I would have know about the H20 I might have waited before purchasing the HD. But the specs (ie: better screen resolution) are what sucked me in.
