Since this thread was started, although an oddity in the context, I thought I could as well update it.

New information was divulged at the SID display week:

• Lenovo confirmed in the BoT;
• 300 mil US$ in confirmed commitments (largely for education applications);
• Focus initially on e-textbooks and later on laptops - the mission is stated to create a "third way" with LCD and OLED;
• Initial focus on a 9.7'' product, but also a design for an 8'' device for another customer initiated;
• Products are scheduled to enter the market in mid 2020;
• Production process indicated as sharing between 80% to 90% with normal LCD production;
• Internal breakthrough of 33fps achieved;
• Further improvements to the 16:1 contrast ratio were internally achieved;
• The display will have selectable "modes": limiting the framerate will greatly (3x) enhance the power consumption;
• Real world scenario indicated as 150 hrs per full charge in "reading" mode and 50 hrs in "high-framerate" mode;
• The TIR technology allows for a particularly efficient front-light solution;
• In the R&D, improvements are still ongoing for what number of colours, colour gamut as percentage of NTSC, resolution (as some realms exist which will benefit from having over current 227dpi), optimal implementation of frontlight and touchscreen, software drivers;
• Confirmation that the technology can be made bistable, but this remains not a priority market-wise (also given the extraordinary power efficiency of the current main implementation).

The CLEARink technology uses only one particle: it's got a black particle that [when excited] will result in black pixels, the white pixel [otherwise]. The light reflects off of the front surface which is a micro structured material that has the total internal reflection (TIR) feature and that's what creates the white pixels [or the tinted subpixels].
