(I know nothing about this format, just read a few explanations on fictionwise)
eReader eBooks can be DRM or not. It depends on the book. If it is DRM then it is controlled by your name and credit card number. The number can be changed if you need to by contacting the eReader site. DRM is not based on anything that would restrict the number of devices it is used on.

I see. Thanks for the explanation.
Does jetbook support DRM controlled by your name and credit card number?

For the mainstream, it's bad. Because it means that the average person would not get any good use out of a Jetbook to purchase say current best sellers.

Jon,
It all depends on how you look at it. The more readers, both devices and actual people, who refuse to support DRM, the more likely that the publishers are forced to stop trying to force it on us.

In any case, what good is DRM if the book you bought two years ago uses a type of DRM that is no longer supported and you hadn't gotten around to reading it yet? I know I often buy books that I don't get around to reading for years.

But, most people don't know about DRM and DRM stripping. So if they cannot read the latest book from their favorite author then it's not going to do them any good. We know DRM is bad. And we can deal. But they cannot and to them, the Jetbook is just going to be an anchor.

I agree that many bestsellers will be available on fictionwise.com and other websites without DRM in case if people will stop buying DRMed books.

If we stop buying DRMed eBooks then we'll cut ourselves off from a lot of eBooks that we want to read. And in that case, we'll have to go back to buying pBooks. The publishers will see a drop in eBook sales and an increase in pBook sales. Not a good idea for eBooks.

No. If we stop buying DRMed eBooks publishers will start produce more and more non DRMed ebooks. It takes time but in 2-3 years everybody will forget about DRM - publishers, ebook destributors and customers.

Don't think so.
No one who started to read ebooks on dedicated ebook readers will revert to pbooks because they stopped buying DRMed ebooks. They will just join the dark side of ebook market and publishers will have to do something to win back the customers if they want to stay in business.
