Rumor: Did B&N Pass on a Chance to Make a 6.8″ Nook Glow HD?
Direct link from the digital reader, FYI:
Rumor: Did B&N Pass on a Chance to Make a 6.8″ Nook Glow HD? [Insert extreme expletive] - I would have bought that. Can anyone say e-ink Android tablet? Swoon. |

It's a fact that eInk is becoming more of a niche each day, but there's still a sizeable market out there and having the first eInk device with that size and resolution is a big score in my opinion. BN made an error here, but we don't have all the info on why the decision was made, so we can but speculate.

*sobs* If this were a Nook I'd have bought it the instant the announcement hit my inbox. As it is, I'm still kind of tempted, but I'm holding out to see if B&N does anything new this year first.

I am hoping B&N just needed less of the screens then originally ordered, and that a new Nook will be announced soon with a screen like this.

It's interesting that the article notes the screens, manufactured by e-ink, come pre-installed with screen-lights. So e-ink is manufacturing screens with lights pre-installed! Lets hope they're good. Then again, I'm not sure I can believe that. Lights are not e-ink's business.
Re: a new Nook, that deserves its own thread. A lot of people don't think B&N will be releasing a new e-reader this year, if at all. If they release / update a device with a screen as good as the kobo (but with the ability to dim it more) and keep the eminently rootable Androis OS, I would really want one. Oh, well. I can dream. |

If the story is true, it's best if B&N didn't get first to market for a 6.8" device.
The Nook will never see the light of day in Canada. |

Heck, Amazon did not release its Paperwhite in Canada until late January, 2013. Who knows how long they would have taken to release a 6.8 inch screen here if they had been first to market. FWIW, Kobo first released their original device in May and the Touch in June, so not all of their devices had fall releases.

Kobo has officially responded to this rumor. It's not true.
