Question PW2 (2013) with new Jailbreak - KUAL wont start
Hi my Heros!


I have made the mistake of wanting to update software on my Kindle.

I have a Kinde PW2 from 2013 with firmware 5.4.5. There I used to install a jailbreak with KUAL, Koreader and Coolreader. I used this for years. Today I wanted to update to the newest version:

1. I downgraded to 5.4.3.2, according to these instructions: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...=244408&page=2

2. I have installed "kindle-jailbreak-1.16.N-r16683.tar.xz" from NiLuJe. It also said "Jailbrek" on the screen, so I think it was successful.

3. I have installed " KUAL-v2.7.22-g699ae4a-20191115.tar.xz". The file "KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2" is in the /documents folder.

4. i have copied the /extensions folder from "kual-helper-0.5.N-r16793" to the device

Now when I want to start KUAL from the start screen, the following message appears: "Application Error, The selected application could not be started, Please try again.

What should I do now? I want Koreader on my Kindle again.

You can upgrade to 5.6.5 and apply the following jailbreak

Or, before the above, just upgrade to 5.4.5 or 5.6.5 and try to run KUAL

You only need to jailbreak once. There are no "new" jailbreaks for devices already jailbroken.

koreader, KUAL, coolreader, and anything else can be updated by installing the latest version. Some applications might have to be uninstalled first.

Ok thanks. Just installed new Koreader from Github. The difference to a 2013 version is amazing.

In general, you need to make sure you have the latest hotfix before you update kindle firmware. In addition, kindle firmware greater than or equal to 5.11 is increasingly hostile to jailbreak and you need to carefully decide which version has must need features and acceptable risks.

After any firmware change, all applications such as koreader and KUAL have to be reinstalled.

Also, you have more control adding new firmware over USB instead of wi-fi.
