I hear you. My enthusiasm drops to near zero when I find a book is part of a series. If the books are only loosely linked I'm OK with that as long as the ongoing storyline is concluded in that book.

This forum also self-selects first books in series(es?), because deals on first books make it easier to "upsell" the sequels at full price.

When I read a series I alternate between a series book and something else. That adds variety without losing track.

I'm a total sucker for series. I'll do a complete reread after reading the latest release, just because I enjoy 'hanging' out with characters that have become like old friends.
