Killing the Rising Sun

I am wondering how this book compares with other history books (for instance, Retribution by Max Hastings). O'Reilly's book has been on the best seller list for a long time but is it watered down for the masses?

I've not read it, so take these comments with a grain of salt. When I was looking at this book two friends who have read it describe it as pretty good "popular history", but a little on the superficial and sensational side. They agreed it's not bad as an overview for someone who's not interested in a more detailed book from a historian like Hastings.

I personally chose to pass at the time as I generally want something with more "meat on the bones", which I know some folks find too detailed and boring.

Yep -- that is kind of my feeling as well. Thanks for the feedback.
