We've been there before; Antennagate, battery issues. You think people do not understand how well iOS works, while I think the reality distortion field is clouding some users' perception; they're told there is nothing wrong, because they are "holding it wrong", and they are suddenly happy that their expensive iThingy is magically fixed.

I'm not sure I follow, but reports indicate the margin on the iPad exceeds 50% (and increases as the capacity increases), which would mean the 16GB costs no more than $250.

I'm waiting for the rumored Ubuntu tablet. And I'm waiting to see how win8 will do.

Long term predictions don't work because the market will eventually be saturated with tablets. Right now we are at the point better tablets bring new customers and cheaper tablets bring new customers (I don't mean necessarily low end tablets, but also lowering the price of older ipad models), and better smartphones pull away potential customers. We'll see who survives when the market is saturated.

The battery issue was fixed with a software update, wasn't it? And Apple never accepted that the Antenna issue was a hardware problem, though they gave bumpers and settled a lawsuit recently. There is no problem, of course, it is the user not knowing how to use the device.

What about the "oh, we had an error on the signal strength, that's why the grip of death decreases signal from 5 bars to 0 bars". You really believe that they had such a fundamental error on the signal strength calculation? Could it not be that they thought "let's boost our display of signal strength, so it looks like our phone gets better reception than others", and it bit them in the rear side when they had the antennagate?

Apple has announced that for years, iPhones have been using a “totally wrong” formula to determine how many bars of signal strength they are receiving.

How do you define this loyalty? Do Apple customers buy only Apple products: no. There are some that buy all the latest iThings, but most of those who bought the iPad2 after owning the original iPad, or bought the new iPad after owning a previous one, did it because of the improvement in the models. If the next iPad, and the one after that, and the one after that won't be much better then the predecessors, they won't have a reason to replace the one that they own.
