I've been using a Unicomp (IBM Series M type) for a few years and I found that I make fewer errors with it. Now, to ensure that we stay on topic, it works fine with Linux.-)

I won't go too off topic too, I hope; but pricewise, honestly, I would care that the (doubled since) price and the build quality of a new Unicomp won't get me over a well mainained original IBM (well its price might be around 70$, if finding in neighbourhood' second hand's market - ebay's there often tries to increase it).
As for the conversion, from the 5 DIN pin, Soarer's converter would just work with gnu/linux, imho (https://sharktastica.co.uk/guides/soarers_1)

Also it could be nice not having a Windows keycap lol .
