Connect Reader software "sensibility"
Hi,
I have problems with the transferring application (Connect Reader). I transform all my PDF-s to RTF, since the my PDFs are in A4/Legal paper size, and it is absolutely unreadeable on the Reader. So I have several RTF's what are untransferrable. If I select it and drag/drop to the Reader or to the Memory card, the processor of my PC goes up to 100%, and nothing happens. It is extremly unconvenient, if you want to transfer several files, after a while you realise, that something is wrong, some of the files were transferred, some not. In one specifica case I oepend my RTF in Word, and removed all the unneccessary formattings: there were some unused styles, what I deleted. Than this file was transferrable. Clearly the Connect Reader application makes some kind of conversion, however it was written badly, and it falls to an endless loop, if something goes wrong. I am really fed up with the quality of this software. Does anyone has similar problems? Maybe a (quick) solution for it? Thanks: Peter |

I haven't seen anything like that on mine, but when I drag books over, I usually go to the library first and the move it to a collection or the Reader or the SD card.
Then I go to the Status item in the tree on the left, which will show you a progress bar and tell you which book is being transferred. |

It's pretty slow on some things for me, but it doesn't hang endlessly ... well, once or twice it's seemed to, and outlasted my own patience with it, but one of the PC's I'm running it on is a bit elderly.

I tried this too, with the same result. It can include the RTF to the library, but if I want to transfer it to the reader, than the Connect Reader application hangs.
The transfer time is clearly matters the size: bigger file size takes more time. But I transferred bigger RTF's already, no problem. This one is a 550 K file only. And, when I transfer a big file, and I click on the Status, than I can see that it is "moving", the arrows are spinning. But with this file the full applicaiton is blocked, and knocked out. Nothing moves, it is not reacting to anything.... |

Hmm. I don't know what's going on there, unless there's something about the particular file that the Reader doesn't like, but that's a wild guess.
Does it open in the PC-side reading software? If so it might rule out the file being the culprit.... |

That is ... strange. The only thought I have left is the difference in the processor speed between the PC and the Reader ... but that shouldn't account for it just stopping, only being slower....

Maybe email Sony support, they might want a copy of the file to figure out specifically what is causing the hang. Or post it here and see if that happens to one of us, rule out a problem with your install/PC.

Thanks for all of you for the help. At the end I removed most of the styles from the RTF, and now it is fine. I forgot to make a backup of the original state, but if I will find any similar, I will post it here

Ok, here we go: I have an RTF stripped down to bare, what is unloadeable to the Reader, since it hangs the COnnect Reader application. Please paste the text to a new file, name it whatever.rtf, and try to load it to the Reader. Originally it was a full book, and I had several other similar faulty ones. I had to export them to plain text, than import to Word, try to shape it like the original.
I am really interested wha tis the result on your config. Or if someone has an idea what is wrong with this RTF? Thanks: Peter {\rtf1\adeflang1025\ansi\ansicpg1252\uc1\adeff0\de ff0\stshfdbch0\stshfloch0\stshfhich0\stshfbi0\defl ang1033\deflangfe1033{\fonttbl{\f0\froman\fcharset 238\fprq2{\*\panose 02020603050405020304}Times New Roman;}{\f39\froman\fcharset0\fprq2 Times New Roman;}{\f38\froman\fcharset204\fprq2 Times New Roman Cyr;} {\f40\froman\fcharset161\fprq2 Times New Roman Greek;}{\f41\froman\fcharset162\fprq2 Times New Roman Tur;}{\f42\fbidi \froman\fcharset177\fprq2 Times New Roman (Hebrew);}{\f43\fbidi \froman\fcharset178\fprq2 Times New Roman (Arabic);} {\f44\froman\fcharset186\fprq2 Times New Roman Baltic;}{\f45\froman\fcharset163\fprq2 Times New Roman (Vietnamese);}}{\colortbl;\red0\green0\blue0;\red0 \green0\blue255;\red0\green255\blue255;\red0\green 255\blue0;\red255\green0\blue255; \red255\green0\blue0;\red255\green255\blue0;\red25 5\green255\blue255;\red0\green0\blue128;\red0\gree n128\blue128;\red0\green128\blue0;\red128\green0\b lue128;\red128\green0\blue0;\red128\green128\blue0 ;\red128\green128\blue128;\red192\green192\blue192 ;} {\stylesheet{\ql \li0\ri0\widctlpar\wrapdefault\aspalpha\aspnum\faa uto\adjustright\rin0\lin0\itap0 \rtlch\fcs1 \af0\afs24\alang1025 \ltrch\fcs0 \fs24\lang1033\langfe1033\cgrid\langnp1033\langfen p1033 \snext0 Normal;}{\*\cs10 \additive \ssemihidden Default Paragraph Font;}{\*\ts11\tsrowd\trftsWidthB3\trpaddl108\trpa ddr108\trpaddfl3\trpaddft3\trpaddfb3\trpaddfr3\trc bpat1\trcfpat1\tblind0\tblindtype3\tscellwidthfts0 \tsvertalt\tsbrdrt\tsbrdrl\tsbrdrb\tsbrdrr\tsbrdrd gl\tsbrdrdgr\tsbrdrh\tsbrdrv \ql \li0\ri0\widctlpar\wrapdefault\aspalpha\aspnum\faa uto\adjustright\rin0\lin0\itap0 \rtlch\fcs1 \af0\afs20 \ltrch\fcs0 \fs20\lang1024\langfe1024\cgrid\langnp1024\langfen p1024 \snext11 \ssemihidden Normal Table;}} {\*\latentstyles\lsdstimax156\lsdlockeddef0}{\*\rs idtbl \rsid3027321}{\*\generator Microsoft Word 11.0.8106;}{\info{\title xxx}{\operator bp}{\creatim\yr2006\mo10\dy24\hr9\min21}{\revtim\y r2006\mo10\dy24\hr9\min21}{\version2}{\edmins0}{\n ofpages1} {\nofwords0}{\nofchars1}{\nofcharsws1}{\vern24611} {\*\password 00000000}}{\*\xmlnstbl {\xmlns1 http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/word/2003/wordml}}\paperw12240\paperh15840\margl1417\margr14 17\margt1417\margb1417\gutter0\ltrsect \widowctrl\ftnbj\aenddoc\donotembedsysfont0\donote mbedlingdata1\grfdocevents0\validatexml0\showplace holdtext0\ignoremixedcontent0\saveinvalidxml0\show xmlerrors0\horzdoc\dghspace120\dgvspace120\dghorig in1701\dgvorigin1984\dghshow0\dgvshow3 \jcompress\viewkind4\viewscale100\rsidroot3027321 \fet0{\*\wgrffmtfilter 013f}\ilfomacatclnup0\ltrpar \sectd \ltrsect\linex0\sectdefaultcl\sftnbj {\*\pnseclvl1\pnucrm\pnstart1\pnindent720\pnhang {\pntxta .}}{\*\pnseclvl2 \pnucltr\pnstart1\pnindent720\pnhang {\pntxta .}}{\*\pnseclvl3\pndec\pnstart1\pnindent720\pnhang {\pntxta .}}{\*\pnseclvl4\pnlcltr\pnstart1\pnindent720\pnha ng {\pntxta )}}{\*\pnseclvl5\pndec\pnstart1\pnindent720\pnhang {\pntxtb (}{\pntxta )}}{\*\pnseclvl6 \pnlcltr\pnstart1\pnindent720\pnhang {\pntxtb (}{\pntxta )}}{\*\pnseclvl7\pnlcrm\pnstart1\pnindent720\pnhan g {\pntxtb (}{\pntxta )}}{\*\pnseclvl8\pnlcltr\pnstart1\pnindent720\pnha ng {\pntxtb (}{\pntxta )}}{\*\pnseclvl9\pnlcrm\pnstart1\pnindent720\pnhan g {\pntxtb (}{\pntxta )}}\pard\plain \ltrpar\qj \li6770\ri0\sl216\slmult0\nowidctlpar\wrapdefault\ faauto\rin0\lin6770\itap0 \rtlch\fcs1 \af0\afs24\alang1025 \ltrch\fcs0 \fs24\lang1033\langfe1033\cgrid\langnp1033\langfen p1033 {\rtlch\fcs1 \af0\afs19 \ltrch\fcs0 \fs19\lang1038\langfe1033\langnp1038\insrsid302732 1 \par }} |

Peter, you may try to use the attach function to attach your RTF here.

So I attach here my unloadeable RTF. If anyone has any idea, why is this file faulty, please let me know. Or if you can guide me where to mail it to Sony Reader support, that would be welcome too.
