Yes, that would be much better. It would indicate that you're using it for content restrictions, including legal ones, and not to gather data from the users.

Zendesk is managed by Zendesk and so I cannot speak to their terms, however they would likely not require it since you can only open a support ticket. You are not required to create an account there at all. It is used for tutorials and support tickets get created automatically.
I got a bookfusion.zendesk.com account because it looked like that was needed to upload books. After signing up, it looks like that's the publisher side of things. The instructions were confusing.

Quote:
None of these terms apply to eBooks or content that an individual uploads to their private library. This applies to publishers only. Fanfiction is not considered copyright infringement. This terms applies only to Publishers but it is included in the general terms of service.
Good to know; thanks.

Quote:
This means that once you upload an eBook you give BookFusion to permission to edit(enhance it with metadata such as fetching book covers, author information and so on) and republish(convert and optimize the files for our integrated reading software)....
Based on your questions, it appears that the terms might not be clear as blanket terms and service was created for the platform initially. I just sent an email to the attorney that drafted these terms and shared your posts. Since your interpretation is not inline with our offering for private eBook readers. Those terms apply to publishers and authors.
Thanks! I understand how the boilerplate "we need copy/edit rights in order to, y'know, put your stuff online in different browsers," often reads the same as "we have the rights to do anything we want with your content." One way to mitigate that is to indicate that the rights end when a person shuts down their account or removes their content; I didn't see that in there.

Without that, it looked like it was saying, "once you put your books on our platform, you can't remove them and we can keep selling them forever, and we can make changes to them and sell that version instead." I was pretty sure that wasn't what was intended.

Quote:
However, I do not want any ambiguity or misinterpretations and have requested that they revise the terms and ensure they separate the terms required for publishers and readers.

Thank you for looking since others might share the same interpretation.
You're welcome, and thank you for working on clarifying the details.

Not at all , it actually costs us to keep your books forever. And as a platform that does not sell ads or users data that is an unnecessary operational cost. Once a user requests that he/she would like to delete his/her account, a single button is clicked and it deletes all uploaded books and any other generated data.

Will send you a PM once the terms get revised by the attorney.

Well, for most books, sure. But if you only kept the the ones that sold well, even after the publisher decided to close their account, you'd be making money on those! (Which seemed like way too much of a power grab to be what was intended.)

Haha indeed. We cannot do that at all. No publishers would have agreed to use the platform if that was the case. Don't think any platform online has that kind of power. Not even Kindle(or i would hope)

Hi,

Can you please tell me:
  • When more PDF reader updates for Android? Is something similar to Reader Mode from Acrobat app in plans for PDfs?
  • Will we have the ability to bring our own fonts for EPUBs (besides the list available in the app)?

Thanks

We will have a version optimized for Android based e-ink readers in 2020. Unfortunately Kindle eInk devices are closed and so we will not be able to build a version for that.

When you say e-readers you meant eBook based devices correct?

Got it. To be honest support is planned for Android based e-ink devices first. We will be rolling out our desktop app in 2020.

However, we will start thinking about those devices during the development of our desktop app to see if we could reuse parts of the codebase. If this is a high priority item for most of the premium readers then we will prioritize an app version focused on Kobo or Nook.

We know our app could be more polished and have a big UI/UX refresh for 2020. Could spare 5 minutes to provide us with feedback by answering the questions in the survey below to help us build a great reading platform for you?

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1cGC...ZohEaxwd0/edit

If you have not tried BookFusion yet, then please also complete the survey if you have changes you would like incorporated into what you consider the ideal eBook platform.
