The Kaleido is real eInk with various filters depending on model. The Gallery AECP is made by E Ink the company, but doesn't appear to be traditional eink panels.

What makes Gallery 3 any less of a eInk panel? The image is stable until the electronics cause a change which has pretty much been the hallmark of eInk panels and the main reason they consume low power. Are you going to argue that having more than one layer of particles somehow makes this not an eInk panel? That having more stable states rather than the 8/16 of B&W eInk panels disqualifies them from being eInk panels?

Where does your view of traditional eInk panels end? The eInk Prism with 2 pigment colours (W and a colour)? The eInk Spectra 3000 with three pigment colours (WB, Y or R)? The eInk Spectra 3100 with four pigment colours (YRWB)? Does an eInk panel need to use microcapsules instead of microcups? Does calling it Advanced Color ePaper somehow offend your sensibilities?

Perhaps that eInk refers to "several types of electrophoretic ink, often called electronic ink" on their webpage might indicate that they think of ACeP film when laminated to a substrate and then bonded to the electronics as being an eInk display.

The product is not fully ready, but it does not look very promising. The colours are muted, everything is painfully slow to update and flashes several times and the ghosting is out of this world.

Maybe Pocketbook can do better, but the technological limitations seem hard to overcome.

he's saying "we" because their site has a promotional partnership with bigme, the manufacturer of this eink device in the video. note that it's not pocketbook device in the video.

Onyx was another of the vendors that was announced by E Ink as developing a Gallery 3 device. However they seem to be dropping out after seeing the screens:

Our product team saw the sample of ACeP. We concluded that It does not meet our quality standards at the moment. Good luck with your purchase though.

to me the yellow ghosting just looks a little too nasty. it's like an armpit stain on a white t-shirt. maybe the next one will be better though.

Seems like they changed their minds, and ordered the screens, or the E Ink press release with Gallery 3 going into production 6 weeks after that tweet is a result of miscommunication.

I can't imagine Onyx using a screen that takes 1.5 seconds to set up.
But maybe the new graphics processor will also help there.

I won't link to it, but badereader have shown off a prototype of the Viva. Model PB802.

The casing looks identical to the Era, except bigger (they weren't shown side by side). Same accessory attachment flap on the back, with perhaps more pogo pins than on the Era?

The buttons looked like they were now angled slightly up in the centre of the device, which I think is a change from the Era which has completely flat buttons.

The OS/UI was "not final" and doesn't like Pocketbook's other readers at all, and honestly looks like it was written by Onyx. That's weird. Quite a bit didn't work. What did work required several refreshes to look correct.

There were some (faked?) images showing the screen with warm light on, cold light on, and lights off.

No price was mentioned!

The release of the Pocketbook Viva got pushed back to "the third quarter of 2023 or later".

This is according to a Pocketbook PR person on a german forum, who claims
the company did not recieve the displays from E-Ink in time for release and is still waiting on new display samples.
