Browser Image Auto-shrinking?

Hi all,
I've been using 3.2.1 k3g for about 10 months and have used the browser to read some manga online with the 3G connection. It's been quite handy as the resolution is just enough for displaying manga pages in landscape mode.
Then I updated to 3.3 firmware yesterday and somehow discovered that when browsing with 3G, all images with size bigger than 800x600 pixels are automatically shrunk to the screen size (original size if using WiFi). And this actually destroyed the manga pages.
Does any one know if this is caused by a change in the root files or is it a new feature of the whispernet proxy? I guess it would need someone with an 3.2.1 k3g to prove if this is a server change.

Cheers,
Rotar

Alright, finally found someone who's also using Kindle 3G (3.1 software edition) and tested with the same picture. http://rotar.tk/test.jpg
The picture is also shrunk so my guess would be that the Whispernet proxy server had some change recently to reduce the size of the images that are requested by kindles.
Is there anyway to cheat about the size of the image and actually get the original one?

I suspect that Amazon's software will be looking at the number of pixels in the image and reducing it, obviously to save on 3G data charges.

I think you'll have to find another way to read what you want, perhaps by downloading to computer and side-loading onto your Kindle.

Thank you for your reply. I'm currently considering about pre-processing the images online like cutting it into 2 pieces and then load the 2 images. This should more or less preserve some of the details in the image even if shrunken separately. It's just an idea, and I currently have no insight into how this can be implemented.

Have just been doing some researches to come up with an idea of making that splitting method when suddenly noticed that some web pages are using images like:
Code:
<img src="data:image/png;base64,aFHEwifehFH.....HIFHiqDDAddh==">
After some google work, a found the name and the wikipage: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_URI_scheme
It simply prints every bit of the image file into the html and, hooray, it doesn't look like an image to the proxy server anymore!

In addition, all images are now grayscale. How did I notice it? Some site with transparent images now show up as black, making text unreadable. I actually noticed exactly when this happened. I was browsing one page on the site and everything is fine, and I went to the next page and BAM, all the images are crap.

That sounds like a good way to discourage 3G tethering.
