According to that debug output your kindle is not exposing its storage via MTP (Media Transfer protocol). As such calibre cannot connect to it. Generally for MTP related problems the only thing I know of that helps is rebooting both the device and your computer.

I had the same problem. I searched MTP support and found a link to Microsoft download center and downloaded a Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit. I also updated Media center to the newest one. The Porting kit changed the way the Kindle shows in "my computer" and now I can just open it to the book folder and it lets me copy my mobi files with no problem. Just Google MTP support and the MS link will come up.

I still use Calibre for my regular Kindle and my daughter's Nook, it's a great program. You can still use it to convert files to mobi for the Kindle fire.

Here's the MS site for the download for anyone else with Windows XP having problems with the Kindle Fire.

I tried the link but the page won't even load, are you sure it is the correct link? Thanks anyway

Sorry about the link, I copied and pasted but didn't work. Just google MTP support and it should give you the Microsoft link, that's how I got it. Hope that helps.
