Recreating library on new computer?
My hard drive died, so I need to reinstall Calibre on my new computer. However, I do have the Calibre folder from my old computer (including all the executables) and the folder where my ebook library was stored.
Is there any way to easily recreate Calibre as it was on my old computer (extra columns, etc) using just this info? What about just copying the library with the date I added things to Calibre (which I use as meaningful information)? What is the best way to go from here? I have not yet installed Calibre onto the new computer. Thanks. |

Just install Calibre as normal - then when it first starts it will prompt you for where you would like your library stored. If you point it to your existing library it will automatically detect and repopulate it.

But will that keep my extra columns, shelves, etc, or will all those need to be recreated?

That still doesn't answer whether or not it will keep all my other information -- if I added a new column with data, will that appear in the new library? I am glad to know the dates will be kept.

All the columns are stored in the calibre database metadata.db, and that is located within the directory structure referred to as your existing library.
